Another fraud with cell phones - the older generation at gunpoint

The older generation, for which the development of new technologies and incorporation into the digital environment is much more painful than the younger, is at risk. It is not surprising that our parents are often victims of scams on the Internet and mobile networks, which is very offensive and causes rage. I ask the habro-people in advance to excuse me if this information is not new (I did not find a similar search on Habré) and for the material is not quite in the Habr format, but I think it’s wrong to treat such cases indifferently.
So, my mother was the victim of the following fraud: the person who called her cell phone introduced himself with a sonorous surname and informed in a command voice that her number was being transferred to other equipment, ordered her to know the balance status and enter an asterisk and a certain sequence of numbers (* 145 is the beginning of the combination to transfer money to the account of another subscriber), after which - delete his call and operator’s messages and turn off the phone. Of course, the money from the account disappeared (well, at least the amount was small). It was the demand to remove the call and all SMS that inspired my mother with suspicion, and she reported the incident to me, otherwise she would not have noticed a loss of money at all. Of course, I advised her to report on what was happening to the mobile operator.
Most likely, the fraudster deliberately acted on the database of subscribers and chose the phones of older people. I strongly advise everyone to instruct their parents and relatives and explain that any actions related to maintenance on the side of the telecom operator do not require the participation of the subscriber, and any communication with the subscriber takes place only through the operator’s official communication channels and by no means with a voice.
