TotalFinder - a convenient plug-in for the Finder
In addition to third-party file managers in Mac OS X, which integrate rather poorly with the system and replace the Finder (with the exception, perhaps, of the Path Finder - he has advanced quite a bit in this regard), you can upgrade the regular Finder :)
For the past couple of months, TotalFinder has existed - SIMBL plug-in for the finder, which allows you to slightly expand the capabilities of the file manager.
By the way, the author of this plugin is a person who has established himself as a Visor (Quake-like Terminal.app).
Pros, cons, pitfalls, screenshots, download - under habrakat. From the pros: • integration into the system. the real integration is the same finder, only better.

• tabs (thanks to the source of Chromium)
• the ability to disable cluttering folders (local, yes!) With .DS_Store files — they will be thrown into a separate folder.
• folders on top! first folders alphabetically, then files alphabetically. not by type, like a crutch with plists and localizations, but alphabetically!
• a fader can appear on the screen by pressing hot keys.
In the future:
• dual-panel a la Total Commander
• support for MacFUSE
Of the minuses:
• paid in the future. while alpha, and then (in beta / release) will be paid.
• Requirements: Mac OS X 10.6+ and SIMBL
• Folders at the top so far only work in List view.
