Gordon: Flash Runtime Implemented in Javascript

What a surprise! Tobias Schneider ( by Tobias Schneider ) has built the Flash runtime environment, working directly in the browser. It is implemented in pure javascript and HTML5, and all sources are open (MIT-licensed) and  hosted on GitHub .

Take a look at Gordon in action (Paul Irish hosted the demos).

Gordon works magically in the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome and Safari (yes, and in iPhone Safari, although the “blue” demo on my 3G is tiringly slow). To install it yourself, run "git clone git: //github.com/tobeytailor/gordon.git". I found that with the URL “file: ///”demos are not loaded (due to the script dependency system), so point your web server to the root of Gordon and point the browser to demos /.

There is still no documentation, so it’s not clear how broad compatibility with Flash Gordon has, or in what direction it will develop. However, at least this is a powerful application for the maturity of open Web technologies.

Appendage:  After some time, on Twitter they guessed that the name comes from the name of a popular character in the United States fiction.
