Nokia 5800 and what didn’t like after a month of use

    BACKGROUND

For about three to four years I used the wonderful Sony Ericsson k750i . But once, removing it from charging, the phone turns off right before our eyes ... Repeated switching on did not help. The phone turns on, loads, goes into reboot, and in a circle ... Yeah. The firmware flew, I thought (about a year before that, a similar story happened to him). He took the phone to a person, he tested it and delivered a verdict: the flash drive died. I decided not to replace the flash drive, but to choose a replacement specifically for the phone.

    NEW PHONE

In general, I somehow put up with the loss and thought about buying a new phone. Chose a long time and for various parameters. As a result, the choice fell on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic . I used it for about a month and decided to share my impressions with the hawkers. Overall, the phone is good. Descriptions and specifications can be found both on the manufacturer’s website and on Yandex Market . There is no point in telling more about this. I’ll only tell you what I personally didn’t like about it. I will compare with my favorite Sonerik.

    THE MAIN THING

    1. Date and time format A period is
used as a separator. in both date and time. At first it was not convenient, but eventually got used to it. Not so critical.

    2. View SMS delivery
reports In SE, delivery reports were not placed in a separate menu item. Delivery status and when it was delivered, or was not delivered at all, it was possible to look at the message of the message itself.
In Nokia, for this, a separate point has been created, moreover:
    • only delivery reports of the last 20 messages are displayed;
    • date-time format! Only OR date or time is displayed. with a dot delimiter. Thus, if it is written, for example, 12.01, then one can only guess whether it is January 12th or 12 hours 01 minute.

    3. Notebook
In the old days, when I didn’t have sonerics yet, and phone notebooks left much to be desired - I kept contacts on the SIM card. but in order to somehow distinguish a person’s phone numbers, if he has several, I added the code at the end of the name:

903/918/495 / ... Then a sonerik appeared and I completely transferred the contacts that didn’t already fit on the SIM card to his notebook . A person could already add several numbers to one contact. Moreover, each of the numbers had its own icon, in accordance with the selected type of number (mobile / home / work / fax ...).

What is observed in nokia? Icons for different numbers (mobile / phone / ...) are really different. Even when I accept an incoming call, the desired icon is displayed. but what is detected in SMS? complete confusion! in the “from” field, only the first name (last name, first name) of the contact is displayed. There is no icon indicating that a number belongs to a particular type. How can I find out if this is a mobile number, or what other? The number itself can be found only by viewing the message information. The icon was never found.

    4. photo gallery
I would like to call "this" squalor. The interface of the image viewer itself is nothing. But what comes before him ... is something.
How did I view images on sonerica? I went into the folder I needed, selected the image, opened it. I could watch the previous image, I could watch the following. but these were images only within the open folder.
But what is observed in nokia? I go to the gallery and it scans the entire file system (both the phone and the flash card) for images. any. both custom and used by one or another software. and gives the result to the user. please - view pictures. but you don’t need to look selectively - you, user, see all the pictures! all at once.
and if I want to show people selective images that are in a specific folder? if I don’t want to show ALL, tk. there may be images that this person does not have to look at all? you have to go through the file manager to the desired folder and open from there. all right, nothing. But. another “but”. Images open, but the navigation available from the gallery (moving between the images by swiping your finger across the screen in one direction or another) is completely absent! it is available only from the gallery itself.

    5. music player
A similar situation is with a music player. The comparison begins again with soneric.
The music player itself and its functionality I will not affect. I’ll just mention adding songs to the playlist.
Compiling a playlist in Sonerica was implemented very conveniently. I select “create a playlist”, click “add songs”, I get to the file system and select a folder or file. and, either immediately add it or mark, in order to add a few marked in the future.
And what about nokia? I go into the music player, go to the playlists, choose "create new". Then the phone scans the entire file system for the presence of certain audio files (both user and used by some software) and gives this entire list to the user. Songs are grouped by artist, and if you get the "artist" parameter from ID3(or other) tags failed - the songs are grouped under the artist "No data". It is very uncomfortable. Personally for me. And if I have two folders with songs in which the artist is not listed in the tags, do I need to select the necessary songs from the “No Data” list so that I can add to the playlist instead of choosing a specific folder?

    6. Interphone contact synchronization
Imagine the situation - you receive an SMS from an unfamiliar number. For example, a work colleague or friend changes the phone number and notifies you of this. What will you do? That's right - put the new number in the contacts. What will the phone have to do the next time you look at the Inbox SMS folder? Right! - instead of a digital number, display how this person is recorded in contacts. And what happens in nokia? Perhaps you guessed it? The sender is displayed exactly as it was displayed the very first time this SMS arrived (that is, if the number was +1234567 .., then it will be written in the “from” field in SMS). Of course, upon repeated receipt of SMS from a given number or sending to it, exactly how the contact is recorded is displayed. But why is it impossible for existing SMS to update this information?

7.Saving phone numbers from the Sent Messages (SMS) section
Let's say you send SMS to a certain number and after sending you want to save this number to your contacts. How was this implemented in sonerica? I opened the sent SMS and selected the item in the menu ... if my memory serves me, it is called "use number" - it contained the sub-item "save to contacts". But what awaits us in nokia? Disappointment. The only way to save the number to which you sent SMS is to copy it and paste it in the notebook itself, choosing "add contact" in it. The save method implemented in Sonerica is also available in Nokia, but it works only for the inbox section. Why is that? I do not know.

In general, the phone is good, maybe it’s worth the money, but I really don’t like the nuances described above ... I’m not going to change the phone to another. Most likely, I will get used to what is available. I'm not one to change phones every season. After all, if you think so - why do you need a phone? The main thing is that he would call. And he performs this function successfully.

    UPD1
The first item is "treated" quite simply (thanks for the tip in the comments):
Menu »Settings» Phone »Date and lie
    - Date
    separator - Time separator
