HTC HD2 review
“ You won’t buy it for yourself, nobody will buy it ”, I thought before my birthday and replaced my old, time-tested and harsh reality communicator HTC P3300 (Artemis) with the new flagship communicator HTC HD2 (Leo).

Having used it for almost a month, it is already possible to draw certain conclusions. Who cares - welcome to cat.
Immediately upset - HD2 is the device that I really want to talk about, it’s interesting to write, and in general you can tell a lot of things - so the review will be in two parts. Despite the huge number of new products that appeared in the last month or two, HTC HD2 still does not lose ground and for many remains an object of close attention. If you make one review - it will be either "empty" or so large that no one can handle it ... Therefore, the first part will be about the piece of iron, and in the second I will talk about the stuffing - so that everything falls into place.

Another caveat - all this time I did not track phones, smartphones and communicators, so it is likely that something has happened somewhere before ... nevertheless, for me it is new. Well, the last - if you have any questions - ask me or look for answers in other reviews that have been on the Internet for days.
HTC HD2, aka HTC Leo - a model that entered the mass market this fall. Despite the fact that now most manufacturers have focused on Android, HTC decided to release a flagship on the good old Windows Mobile, version 6.5.
The novelty is unequivocally interesting - such a productive filling in such a thin case has not been anywhere else. And the screen size with a diagonal of 4.3 '' is, perhaps, the first time (at least in the mass market).
TTX news looks as follows:

The box is the same as the HTC Hero - a small sized brick made of thick cardboard that fits easily in one hand. At first, it causes some joy - it’s beautiful, minimalistic ... but you subconsciously quickly realize that there was definitely no place inside for accessories such as Velcro for fastening in a car. I bought the same HTC P3300 in the maximum configuration - which was just not there ...

Inside the device is securely fixed to a special substrate, under which everything else is located. Namely:
- Case;
- USB wire;
- Battery;
- Memory card;
- Wired stereo headset;
- adapter for charging;
- A quick guide.

Quick guidesubtle and black and white - only the main points are registered there. On the one hand, it is unlikely that this phone will be bought by a person far from technology - there should not be any problems in mastering it. On the other hand, to any technically sophisticated device there should be a detailed description, moreover, in paper form - so that without having a computer at hand, you could find out everything and everything.
The adapter has a removable plug - apparently, in order to make it easier to lose one of the parts;) (in fact, this is done so as not to produce adapters - you can just change the plugs depending on the region). There is no wire from the adapter - it only has a USB connector, into which you need to insert a USB cable. In general, not the most versatile option, however, you can charge.
The wirefrom the USB-microUSB kit - something that also upset me a bit. Why the company has left miniUSB, which is much more universal and before that was in most models, is not clear. For example, now in the span there remained auto-charging from the kit from the P3300, not to mention the fact that now you need to carry another 1 cord. Yes, and in the event of a wire loss, the microUSB wire will still need to be searched ... and it doesn’t cause me any confidence in reliability, somehow it's all dead. You can certainly buy a microUSB-miniUSB adapter, but IMHO, it should be included. Nevertheless, for a month everything has been working fine, although a little sediment remains. SanDisk's 2GB MicroSD

memory card contains Navitel navigation software and comes with an adapter for a regular SD card.
Battery- 1230mAh, 3.7V, 4.55Wh.
The headset is the most common - black glossy earbuds, on the wire of which there is a small remote control (for controlling music, receiving calls). Even despite the removable clip - they are unlikely to be any better than the headphones from the iPhone), so I immediately put them back into the box.
The case is made of the skin of a young dermantine)) In fact, the case is very good - it is dark gray and has a yellow line around the perimeter, and inside is a fleecy coating so as not to scratch the phone. But initially it is sooo tight. So much so that pulling the phone out of it was some kind of problem) After a week of active wearing, the situation improved - the cover was a little worn out, in addition I stretched it under a hairdryer.

Actually, that's all. But the worst thing (for myself) I found out a little later - at the time of purchase, in Russia there were no original accessories anywhere) More precisely, something of course started to peck - films on the screen (500r), self-made silicone covers made of silicone (500r) or even crocodile leather (3000r), but it was all “not that” (although I bought a non-original case with a “tongue”). Everyone is waiting for the original deliveries - they promise in January-February (although something can already be found on the Internet). In general, while with high-quality accessories a little tight)
Usually I take pictures of the devices immediately after the “opening” - as long as there are no fingerprints, dust particles and other misfortunes - nevertheless, on the photos it looks more advantageous and pleasant. But here the willpower was simply not enough) And the people in the office could not be stopped - even the owners of Hero (of whom there were already three in the office at that time) put aside all things in order to slap a new screen)
Nevertheless, everything turned out to be much more optimistic - the device extremely resistant to external stimuli and that's why.
Almost the entire front part is occupied by a capacitive screen, the diagonal of which is honest 4.3 inches (resolution 480x800, WVGA, 88x56 mm) - it is reliably protected by a glass layer.

It would seem that a device can be more defenseless from materials than glass? However, field trials showed the exact opposite. Take a look at this video (see HD version):
It is logical to assume that a knife with a diamond sharpening will do its job) But in my entire life, for example, I have never had the opportunity to walk with a similar knife and a phone in one pocket. The screen is more than resistant to misfortunes - it was not possible to scratch it even intentionally ... and since it occupies almost the entire space, the communicator will look “like new” for a long time, even if you simply carry it in your pocket. Not to mention the case ... The
glass is quite easily soiled - the prints easily remain ... but also easily erased - by hand, sleeve or trouser leg) The frame is practically absent - for greater convenience when managing your fingers. In the sun, everything is clearly visible on the screen - this is a rarity. Auto brightness control knows its job.

“ And what are these dots and stripes on the screen ?!"- there was a question from the audience)) Perhaps this is one of the most common questions that are generally asked regarding this communicator.
Indeed, the screen is covered with many "artifacts", among which there are diagonal strokes with an interval of about 5 mm (and since strokes are at two angles, they eventually form a grid) and two kinds of points - one at the intersection of the strokes, the second at intervals about 2 mm (there were more on the P3300). Why all this ugliness is needed - I don’t know, but it is only visible when bright light (sunlight or reflection from a lamp) hits the screen. In everyday use, they are practically invisible and in no way interfere. I tried to convey everything in the photographs (by the way, it is these points and grids, as well as the villi from the plush ball that create the appearance on the video above that the screen is scratched).

In general, for the practicality of the screen I put 6 points out of five. However, as well as for the quality of the picture, but more on that later.
Above the screen there is an “ear” sensor, an ambient light sensor and a small speaker grid - functional LEDs are located under it. Under the display there are 5 buttons - in relief they are divided into 4 buttons, but in fact this is all one big detail that just bends under your fingers. Because of this, it minimizes backlash, but there is no discomfort.
The reverse side is also interesting - in the middle about 60% is occupied by a metal battery cover (with fine grinding texture), and above and below is a matte plastic like soft-touch (the rest of the case is made of it). Above the lid is a rather prominent ledge of a five-megapixel camera (to some extent, it is even sharp), dual LED flash and speaker grid (for statistics - 22 holes).

The lid is removed very tightly, but you can get used to it;) But it is encouraging that nothing will be erased there ... and the lid will be tightly fixed all the time. Under it is a battery, a microSD card slot and a SIM card slot. And also a red “dot” for rebooting. The memory card and SIM card can be changed without removing the battery - this is a plus. But the fact that Reset is hidden in a place inaccessible to pins is perhaps a minus (although the phone has never hung up all the time).
There is nothing above and to the right, but on the left side there are “rockers” for controlling the volume. Bottom - microphone, headset jack and microUSB hole.

The design of the device is really nice, at least with such a screen it would be difficult to come up with something else. It happens that you use the device with your eyes closed on its appearance ... here, absolutely everything suits me. No glamorous chrome inserts, extra decor - nothing! Not even gloss! Hooray!
The dimensions of the device are (in mm) 67x121x11 and the weight of 157 grams is very worthy. This is the largest of the communicators (and the thinnest) that I have ever seen - just a little bit and it would be uncomfortable to hold it in my hand ... but this model is still "on the edge" - a day later I got used to its size.

The speaker volume is good - you definitely won’t miss a call. But listening to music through it is a dubious pleasure, it is much better to use headphones. The vibration alert is strong - it is felt even in the cover of the inner pocket of a thick winter down jacket (true).
Operating time - in standby mode, the phone may well lie for two days, or even more. With my pace of use, it lasts exactly one day. “My pace” is an automatic regulator of screen brightness, about an hour of talking per day, about 10 photos per camera, a couple of hours in ICQ (here with minimal backlight), And about 30 minutes of twitter, opera, navigation and playing Teeter.

In case of watching a video or listening to music, the device lives even less, but fortunately I have delegated these functions to profile devices) I will write separately about playing the video in the second part.
The communicator connects to the computer without any firewood, the speed through the cord is such:

In the first part I will not summarize, list the pros and cons - I will only list a couple of points that I personally did not like (without going into the program details).
Liked :

** Thin, stylish, youth;
*** Just damn a huge screen !!! Its colorfulness and vitality;
*** Metal and matte plastic - the case is simply excellent! It is also convenient to hold it in your hand;
*** High performance, there are all the wireless interfaces I need;
** Cope with non-converted video;
** Support memory card;
** WM - for me it is a plus;
* The camera makes generally good pictures;
Pleasantly pleased with the practicality of the case - the back side of the same Hero is scratched with a fingernail without any problems, not to mention the glossy iPhone cover. Android may be good, but I didn’t ask anyone - no one gave me a clear plus, because of which it would be possible to run headlong to change the device and OS. But for a couple of years I got used to WM - I decided on software, I know where, what and how ... and what’s most surprising - I’m working fine with all this.

Speaking of oiphon) Everyone has it - starting from unicellular blondes, ending with gopniks - at least because of his pop music, I don’t want him (although I agree that he’s good otherwise). And if earlier the “iPhone killers” had to make only miserable attempts, then here ... I will not say that the iPhone is killed - this can be said in the second part of the review)) But this device is at least not ashamed to get out of your pocket ... and, as I showed practice, the owners of iPhones unwittingly tear themselves away from their screens and perplexedly start to think something like “I didn’t smell ... what kind of awesome thing is this?”"And in vain try to" catch "a glance at the apple logo on the case - for utilization, in the hope of making sure that this is still Apple and that he will definitely find infa about the new iPhone at home) And yet, I hope there will be no holivars in kamenty - by -My, everyone is already tired of it.
I did not like it :
(* - garbage, *** - very bad)
* Some kosyachki in the configuration, the lack of original accessories at the moment;
** MicroUSB instead of miniUSB;
* On the back side, the camera protrudes quite strongly, its protrusion is somewhat sharp;
* Tightly removes the battery cover, hidden reset;
*** Short battery life (24 hours). Although for such a screen ...
*** "Tenacity" of the camera does not allow you to shoot more dynamically than a scene or in motion - 4 out of 5 frames are blurry;
* The sound of the speaker is clearly not enough bass;
*Almost always after switching on, the phone asks you to specify the desired time zone - it got enough! ) It was decided
* I will miss the button to turn off the screen at the top on the right end;
* Extremely sensitive screen;
** Price.
It is unlikely that anyone will want to break the display on such a device (and in general at least somehow shake it) - I strongly recommend that you wear it in a case, with it there is more chance to survive. Accessories will certainly appear - most of all I am waiting for a high-quality Velcro in the car, a cradle on the table and a stylus (there are times when it would be convenient with him).
The battery life is dictated by a powerful processor and a hefty screen - this is expected and should be borne in mind when buying.
The camera ... surprised - I was expecting the best (the same Samsung Jet fotkal much faster). I hope they will fix it with some patches, but I’ll tell you about what is in the second part ... Speaker - it’s fine for calls (although I use vibration shake 99% of the time), and listening to music is much better through headphones), so the speaker eat and okay. Everything else, in fact, is trifles.
The sensitivity of the screen can be reduced programmatically, but in general, all the discomfort for me is, in fact, caused by the fact that I previously printed mainly on a resistive screen - the difference is significant and requires re-getting used to.
The price is now from 25 to 30 thousand ... given that this is a new flagship, it can’t be cheap by definition. And given the fact that it is, in fact, image-building, it is assumed that Central Asia should have babosy even in times of crisis) And yet, it’s expensive of course.

The second part is almost ready - I plan to publish in the very near future. If the device is interesting, but did not see the answer to the question of interest in the first part or if you have any wishes - write, I will try to include everything in the second part of the review. Additionally I can advise a thread on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum, where there are answers, probably for any questions.
