Aqua penguin

Festo engineers from Hanover, Germany, created an aquapwin robot.

This robot swims underwater almost like a real penguin, it knows how to navigate, maneuver in a limited space, as well as change its course. The hydrodynamic form and motion system are as close as possible to its natural counterpart.

Inside the aquapwin there is an electric motor that drives wings, which actually repels it from the water. The robot gained the ability to bend its body thanks to the patented fin-structure technology, which was obtained from the tail fin of a fish. Bionic penguins are designed to be completely autonomous under water. The three-dimensional intelligent sonar system allows the robot to navigate in space and avoid collisions, including when penguins are in a group. The robot is controlled by a flexible longitudinal strut.

Engineers from Festo did not stop there and created an air penguin, as well as a mechanical arm that is able to handle the most fragile objects with the utmost care.

In conclusion, a video where you can see the wonders of engineering in action.
