How to make friends Skype and AWN

These guys do not use graphical shells, they don’t like it when everything “just works”, they send messages with the help smbclientand may not read further ;-)

    Problem

There is a wonderful AWN window navigator that makes Linux a bit more like a macOS. By default, it is installed from the Debian package awn-manager or avant-window-navigator. And in the future it shows beautiful icons on a beautiful dock.
System - Ubuntu 9.10. All applets for standard Gnomish panels (at least that I use) have analogues. And it’s logical not to use the “top panel” at all. However, but on it there are standard icons for network availability, sound control, and systray, where in particular Skype is “minimized”. Thus, if you install awn “out of the box” and hide this panel, no one will know about new messages, and in order to expand Skype, you have to show the panel.
Those. you have to keep constantly the unnecessary "top" panel.

    Decision

    1. Understand that AWN has an applet for the system notification area.
    2. Understand that it is not installed.
    3. Understand that GNOME has a single registration mechanism for this area.
    4. Understand that for the standard panel there is also such an applet.
    5. Delete the standard applet (via the context menu), add awn's.
    6. Refresh the session.

I recommend using version AWN 3.9 (trunk). How to install, described in the instructions
