YouTube Support in Popcorn Hour Media Player Discontinued

The owners of the rather popular hardware HD-media player Popcorn Hour (the concentration of which on Habr is probably higher than the average on the Internet, since the player is actually a full-fledged Linux machine), you must have noticed that watching YouTube on it through a standard service Media Service Portal has become unavailable.

I'm not sure, but I suspect that a similar fate befell his domestic clones like BBK PopcornTV.

Representatives of the manufacturer (Syabas Technology) justify that YouTube has changed the terms of service (TOS) by banning access to videos for all set-top boxes, with the exception of “several strategic Google partners” (which is the owner of YouTube) .

However, according to Engadget, according to Google, this was not quite the case.

Popcorn Hour and the like initially used YouTube not quite in accordance with the proposed TOS (Google’s statement uses the less streamlined wording “video scraping”, video scraping technology), which ultimately led to legal claims and a ban on broadcasting. “The companies that have entered into agreements with us to use our APIs, such as TiVo, Sony, Panasonic and PS3, have not been affected in any way,” Google says.

Engadget also mentions that it does not know anyone other than Syabas, who would be required to block the possibility of broadcasting the video. And the latter claim that now Google refuses to conclude an agreement with them - apparently, the cup of patience is full.
