NanoCAD. let's get acquainted

Friends, good friends asked to publish this text, since now it’s unrealistic to get to Habr. If you have an invite somewhere lying around - please share with the author of the text at [email protected]

    Good day!

I want to tell a little about us and ask for help from the habr community. I work in the IT company Nanosoft ( www.nanocad.ru), whose development team has released a free basic CAD platform. For those who are in the know, I think it will be interesting to read this article. For those who don’t, read anyway and find out in which direction modern Russian software for engineers is developing. First, a little explanation of the terms. CAD - a computer-aided design system. Simply put, a system that allows you to create projects on a computer without using a pencil and Kuhlmann. This, of
course, is a very superficial interpretation. Besides the fact that it is convenient to make a drawing in it, it allows you to automate operations, especially standard ones. For example, it makes it possible to make your own settings for line thicknesses, or to suggest “here you need to put another pipe, the diameter of the current one does not match” and much, much more.

A bit of history. The development of Western CAD systems began in the 60s, by the 80s those “monsters” that were still on the market had already formed. Basically, these are, of course, Western companies. Russia was not lucky - the active development of CAD systems coincided with the restructuring and was not up to software, later the pirates pulled themselves up. Nevertheless, some of our companies still engaged in writing their own systems, and additional applications for Western products. Despite the fact that Nanosoft is a young company, its foundation was
laid by people who were actively developing domestic CAD systems in those years.

Why do you have to make your own applications in Russia? First of all, because of the notorious GOSTs. De jure, they now act as recommendations, but de facto - are valid to this day and are constantly updated. That is why it is impossible to use the Western system without adapting to Russian realities; plugins or additional programs are needed.

According to our estimates, in Russia 75% of unlicensed CAD users. Of the remaining, 10 percent - they buy the platform, but use unlicensed applications, 15 percent - completely switched to licensed software. At the same time, half of the profit from sales, again according to our estimate, somewhere around 6 billion rubles (before the crisis), goes abroad. The price of Western CAD licenses is several thousand dollars. The main share of payments is the cost of the platform, without which it is impossible to work in specialized applications. Moreover, basically all sappers are sold by subscription, if you missed, pay again.

In order to make it easier for our Russian enterprises to switch to licensed software during the crisis, we decided to create a Russian CAD platform. And to make it free, because we believe that at this stage, paying for the platform is not relevant. To this "basis" to release applications for little money and work on a subscription system when the user renews his subscription for a year as necessary. Plus, payment for the software we have is mainly through the site, which is
also quite new for our complex market.

The release of its own CAD platform is not an easy and responsible matter. Created at a frantic pace and worked on wear for about a year and a half, and now they made the first pre-release - nanoCAD 2.0. Legally, it can be used without restrictions, everything is licensed, everything is according to the law. Later, we’ll open the API so that other developers can adapt their applications to our platform.

I can immediately foresee the question - which axis have been developed. Under Windows. Under Linux, they have not yet mastered it, but there is no urgent need at the moment - the vast majority of users of the product work under Win. In the future, after polishing this version, it may be done under Linux. First of all, we are faced with the task of polishing the first (!) Russian free CAD platform and working out the final specification taking into account the opinions of users, because we perfectly understand that we need a product that will be convenient for everyone to work with. Now we have already begun to receive feedback. Of course, there are also reviews like “garbage”, although we need reviews like “here you have a bug, here is the log”. We make this product free for all Russian users, so the reaction is important
more than ever. Therefore, I ask the habra party to test the software, if there are understanding people, or tell your friends, those who work on such programs.

    That, in fact, is all.

PS: share an invite with a girl? And then I can’t even answer comments.

PPS: we are looking for good programmers for Bitrix for a constant (taking this opportunity).
