Is it worth moderating user-generated content at an early stage in startup development?

Not so long ago, my friends and I launched a small miner. It is a social network for musicians. Groups are registered, upload music, upload pictures. In general, everything, like everyone else. Everything was fine as long as I began to notice that musicians are not very literate people, but very vulnerable. The names of half of the groups were typed by CAPSLOCO, moreover, out of this half somewhere around a third contained all kinds of special characters, such as asterisks, exclamation points and symbols of a nuclear threat. Because of what the whole site looked like a zoo and it was not very pleasant for me personally to read its pages.
I did not like this situation and I decided to moderate all the names of the groups with my own hands. He transferred everything to lowercase and killed all the specials. Some groups were very offended, they said that it was their corporate identity, that fans knew them that way, etc. The rules for the names of uploaded songs (caps, incorrect punctuation, etc.).
In connection with this, questions arose:
    - Is it necessary to moderate the user information?
    - What should be preferred: inviolability of user content or maintaining the cleanliness of the site?
    - How can I educate the user not to write any nonsense and at least sometimes try to write according to the rules of the Russian language?

Thanks to everyone who shares the experience. With your permission I will add your advice here.
