Google DRAM Crash Statistics
Statistics collected over two and a half years on ten Google servers showed that the number of errors in RAM is much higher than previously expected. On average, there are 3,751 errors per year for each DIMM. If ECC technology is not implemented in the chip, then these errors remain uncorrected.
This is the first such a large-scale and complete study of the reliability of RAM used in standard PCs. The modules of different manufacturers and different types (DDR1, DDR2, FB-DIMM) were tested.
As it turned out, the number of errors depends little on the temperature of the system and the DIMM brand, but it depends on the motherboard manufacturer. See full results here .
