ADO.NET Data Services v.1.5 CTP2

The summer of 2009 has ended, on the calendar of September 1. For some, this is a celebration of knowledge, but for some, new issues. So the Astoria team released the next CTP product ADO.NET Data Services 1.5. Compared to the previous release, CTP2 is the result of really great work done on the project and we can already see that ADO.NET Data Services is becoming an even more powerful platform. In general, it is clear that the development of Astoria is aimed at even closer integration with Silverlight and the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

    What's new in CTP2:

    • Projection. This is a new opportunity for Astoria, which appeared only in this CTP. This feature allows you to build more complex projections using ADO.NET Data Services, and both server and client functionality are available.
    • Data binding. The ability to bind to the user interface in WPF and Silverlight was already in the previous CTP, however, in the new release, there was a little refactoring and the bind became even easier.
    • Row count. Nothing has changed, bugs have been fixed.
    • Feed customization. The number of items that can be customized has been expanded.
    • Server driven paging. Added support within the client library.
    • Enhanced LOB Support. Added support within the client library.
    • Request Pipeline. Now you can wedge into the request processing chain from the client using the event model (something similar to the ASP.NET event model). This is necessary for even greater opportunities to expand the functionality of services.
    • New “Service Provider” interface. The changes are mainly related to refactoring of provider interfaces.

In addition, it is reported that a number of errors have been fixed. Thus, the output of ADO.NET Data Services v.1.5 has become another CTP closer.

Information also appeared that all these features of version 1.5 will be part of the .NET Framework 4.

Therefore, I congratulate you not only on the day of knowledge, but also on the release of the next ADO.NET Data Services v.1.5 CTP2.
