Asus eee pc 701 as a toy for wardriving

Well, what is wardriving to tell, I suppose, it is not necessary ... But what is needed in order to turn this netbook in the basic configuration into an excellent tool for this kind of training is probably worth telling.

So, not the worst network card is built into this unit (in any case, it can monitor mode and traffic injection, but that’s all we need), so the first thing we need is the correct OS, which is Linux by itself =) Best for The BackTrack distribution is suitable for these purposes , moreover, if you do not have an SDHC card, I highly recommend the third version, as 4th on a 4GB SSD drive does not fit corny.

This distribution is based on slackware, if I'm not mistaken, version 10.2. Installation instructions can be seen here.(eng) + in the same place, the method for fixing some jambs when working with eee pc 701 is described below, or you can check the free translation of this article here .

    As for the installation:

    1. To write the image to a USB flash drive, some will probably find it easier to use the unetbootin utility (there are both win and linux versions).

    2. For those who have never dealt with fdisk, it may seem a bit complicated / unusual utility, in which case you can use either the qtparted utility built into the distribution kit (it worked for me somewhat incorrectly, so it came down to the idea of using fdisk), or boot from any live cd and split the drive from there, using gparted.

    3. The operation of copying the main directories can take a very long time, but the computer does not hang at the same time, you do not need to restart it =)

    4. When booting from livecd, it is better not to choose the login option using the compiz (and after installation it is better to refuse it IMHO, it is not needed), and it was not displayed in my best way.

    5. The “shutdown” problem has been fixed with shutdown; you do not need to climb into /etc/rc.d/rc.6.

So, we have the right axis ... Now we can take care of the sane antenna. A detailed manual with photos of implanting it in a hedgehog is here .

Thus, we get a small, long-lasting, under certain conditions, up to 5-6 hours (on this occasion I recommend visiting the site http://lesswatts.org) and a convenient tool for wardriving and general security audit of the network (the back track was originally sharpened precisely for this and has a bunch of necessary utilities as a part). Have a good scan =)
