expensive and cheap

After reading the comments on a couple of topics, for some reason I wanted to draw the attention of the public, but that it is incorrect to use the words “expensive” and “cheap”. Especially taken out of context. Especially comparing different things. Especially speaking of business.

Tell me 100 dollars - is it expensive or cheap? And 1,000,000 euros?

So, I utter a banality, which apparently because of its banality is not clear to everyone: in business there are no words “expensive” and “cheap”, there are words “effective” and “inefficient”. And only through the prism of these words can any action be considered in business.

Spend 100 bucks on any stray, just because it's cheap - is unacceptable for business. If the acquisition is ineffective, spending even a dollar on it makes no sense. And not spending 100,000 on an effective thing just because it’s expensive is also unacceptable.

In business, everything must be reduced to money. Money is the blood of business. And if the organization would not be guided only by material interests, then I would not work in such an organization. And I don’t need to talk about “team spirit”, “social responsibility” and other high matters - they are used by business only because they are effective and, as a result, reduce costs (that is, increase profits).

A phone can cost $ 2000 because if it increases the efficiency of a couple of managers by at least ten percent (and with the right approach a 10% increase in labor productivity is not the upper limit), then in less than a year, it will pay off and begin to make a profit. An Internet portal can cost $ 160,000. Just a domain name can cost a million because it will bring two (the number can be replaced with a more pleasant one for your eye).

No need to speak in terms of “expensive” and “cheap” comparing two big differences. No need to compare a netbook and a laptop business series - a laptop will cost more, but the tasks for which it is created can be solved with it more efficiently. It does not occur to you to compare the Audi A8, not even with the VAZ 2105, but with the Audi TT?

It seems to me that if we start to communicate in terms of efficiency, then it will become much easier for us to work. It’s expensive and cheap — they are from the category of psychological barriers, and working with notorious personalities is extremely unpleasant :)
