About browsers and screen resolutions

Since our company is not only engaged in website promotion and advertising on the Internet, but also creates excellent websites, we decided to conduct a study on what exactly and how Internet users use it. Having collected data on Russia, we decided not to stop and collect the same data on Internet users in Ukraine.

Data for April 2009. Used by Liveinternet, Bigmir and Ranking.com.ua
    1. Browsers
    Russia
    1 Internet Explorer 7 25.5%
    2 Opera 9 20.0%
    3 Firefox 3 19.3%
    4 Internet Explorer 6 18.4%
    5 Opera Mini 7.0%
    6 Internet Explorer 8 2.9%
    7 Firefox 2 1.9%
    8 Chrome 1.5%
    9 Opera 10 0.8%
    Other 0.6%

    Ukraine
    1 Opera 9 25.8%
    2 Internet Explorer 7 24.0%
    3 Firefox 3 22.2%
    4 Internet Explorer 6 15.7%
    5 Internet Explorer 8 2.2%
    6 Firefox 2 2.1%
    Undefined 5.8%
    Other 9.0%

Russia . The first place in use is Internet Explorer 7. In principle, the result, looking at the most popular resolution (see below), the most popular OS and what it is connected with, is quite predictable. Next is Opera 9. *, Firefox 3 came close to it, then Internet Explorer 6 (well, people don’t want to update!).
    What happens:

    1. If you add up all versions of Internet Explorer, you get 46.8% - almost half of all people.
    2. If you add up all versions of Firefox, you get 21.2% - just a little more than Opera (20.8% in total).
    3. Almost all Opera users have upgraded from eighth to ninth versions. There are even some people using the tenth version!
    4. However, how fast is the mobile Internet! Opera Mini - 7% of the total number of browsers! It's time for website owners to seriously think about mobile versions.

Ukraine . Suddenly (as for me), Opera 9 is the leader! Internet Explorer 7 - second place, the reasons, in principle, are the same as in Russia. Again, slightly inferior to Firefox 3. Again, many people do not want to update their Internet Explorer 6.
    What happens:

    1. Either Bigmir simply does not know how to determine Opera Mini (after all, almost 6% of unrecognized ones), or in Ukraine everything is so bad with mobile Internet, but Bigmir statistics do not have data on this browser. Another source of statistics (ranking.com.ua) shows that Opera Mini is 0.4%, so, apparently, in Ukraine everything is really bad with mobile Internet.
    2. If you add up all versions of Firefox, you get 24.3% - more than in Russia.
    3. If you add up all versions of Internet Explorer, you get 41.9% - a little less than in Russia, but still quite a substantial part.
    4. There are 1% of people who continue to use the eighth version of Opera.

    2. Permissions.

    Russia
    1 1024 × 768 31.5%
    2 1280 × 1024 25.7%
    3 1280 × 800 15.6%
    4 240 × 320 6.8%
    5 1440 × 900 5.7%
    6 1680 × 1050 4.7%
    7 1152 × 864 3.8%

    Ukraine
    1 1024x768 30.2%
    2 1280x1024 28.2%
    3 1280x800 15.1 %
    4 1440x900 7.4%
    5 1680x1050 6.7%
    6 1152x864 3.7%

Russia . CRT monitors are traditionally in the first place. LCD monitors came close to them, more than 15% of laptops, all the same 7% of mobile Internet are visible. Pleased with almost 10% of wide screen monitors.

Ukraine . The situation almost completely repeats Russia, except that:

    1. LCD monitors almost caught up with CRT monitors.
    2. There is no permission, traditional for mobile Internet. Yes, it turns out that mobile Internet in Ukraine is not yet developed.

    Conclusions .
A normal site is a site that:

    1. Correctly displays in browsers: Opera 9, Internet Explorer (6, 7, 8), Firefox 3.
    2. Has a mobile version (for Russia).
    3. Designed for a minimum resolution of 1024 × 768, and at the same time it looks normal in all resolutions, more than that.
