Yesterday, I realized that I had reached all my projects again almost to the deadlines, which are now approaching at a wild speed. The work is not ready, the organizational issues are not completely resolved, there is absolutely no time, the projects are very promising, and the clients are just damn valuable - it’s impossible to refuse any.
Against the background of this disgrace, I found a way for myself to increase the productivity of my work and move all the deadlines to a period of two times the remaining time.
Let's try to imagine a spherical freelancer with a vacuum in a place where there should be a willpower.
I watched myself for a long time, read articles and comments on self-motivation and the organization of work space and time, and extracted two important constants for myself:
1. most people work effectively for about four out of eight hours;
2. The normal sleep of an adult healthy person is eight hours.
It turns out that a day a person spends 8 hours on work, of which 4 hours he spends, and 4 dumbasses, 8 hours for sleep and 8 more for all sorts of human needs - to eat, brush his teeth, go to the store. But when the deadlines are tight, you can sacrifice part of your free time to complete the work, and usually this time is taken from sleep. For example, if you reduce sleep time by 4 hours, you can work 12 instead of 8 hours a day. But the more time a person has to work, the more he tries to grow the time that he is crazy (4 grow up in 5-6). There is still not enough time, and time for solving vital issues is reduced. This affects the overall condition, fatigue, and ultimately leads to an inevitable drop in productivity.
When at the same time a person has several projects that require his close participation, when he subconsciously searches for a solution to problems, he constantly jumps from one task to another. Even if he is busy solving one problem, the brain slowly solves a part of others. Sometimes, when you need to concentrate extremely, it is very distracting.
Moreover, if this is freelance, one also has to solve organizational issues related to the coordination, signing of contracts, TK, banks, and other nonsense. And this is mainly done in the daytime, because office workers rarely sit at work at night — they prefer to sleep. But for freelancers the opposite is true - at night it’s quiet, calm, you can concentrate and give much more results than during the day when cars are buzzing, children in the yard are screaming (someone else is at home), etc., and some have channels ties clogged an order of magnitude stronger.
There is a dilemma - either to work during the day, but in a less comfortable environment, or at night, but to receive calls from customers and quickly reply to mail in between sleep and sleep. This is not productive.
1. It is convenient to work with clients during the day 2. It is
convenient to work alone
at night 3. You need to sleep 8 hours a day
4. You need to have time to resolve personal issues.
5. Deadlines are shaking.
The task is solved very simply: the day is divided into two equal parts - day and night. Each part consists of 4 hours of sleep, 4 work, 2 hours of personal time after sleep before work and 2 after work before bedtime.
Having 4 hours to work, it is very difficult to afford to spend two hours playing a game of chess or reading comments on a hub Because there are only two hours (and not six) left to solve problems in the current day. And if the work is not done efficiently, then the day was wasted. A shorter time frame for each part of life mobilizes the part of the brain responsible for responsibility. At the same time, you do not go beyond the limits of normal life.
Adding another beautiful condition, we can make our short days very clear: make a schedule based not on integer time values, but on values of type float.
You can distribute the schedule of sleep and work in such a way that covers both night time for work on tasks requiring increased concentration, and daytime, requiring communications.
At the output, we get pure productivity.
11:18 - rise, rest 1.5 hours
12:48 - day work 4 hours
16:48 - end of the working day, rest 2.5 hours
19:18 - evening sleep 4 hours
23:18 - rise, evening rest 3 hours
02:18 - night work 4 hours
06:18 - morning rest (jogging) 1 hour
07:18 - morning sleep 4 hours
Rest within one working noon can be divided in any proportions, I am more comfortable in the evening to get more fun before work, and in the morning, on the contrary, sit down at the computer faster until defrosted.
I can’t write anything yet, because only now I decided on this measure. In a week, if it works out like this, and even if it doesn’t work out, I’ll definitely write about the results achieved.
But, knowing the dunce inside my body, I hope that I picked up the correct methods for its destruction.
