France at the forefront of the war with consumers of illegal content
In the new project, the authorities propose to send warning messages to users who, through their actions, violate the copyrights of film and record companies. If these warnings do not take effect, then operators will be able to disconnect users from the Internet for a year. In addition, the law requires local operators to intercept and transmit to the authorities data on people who distribute pirated materials. And they will already be judged. Ordinary users will be given two attempts. And two warnings. If even after that they do not lose the desire to merge illegal content from file hosting or torrents, then that's it, write it all and say goodbye to the Internet. By the way, the bill also stipulates that disconnecting from a particular provider will not stop particularly zealous users.
The sad thing about all this is not only that consumers of illegal content will be deprived not only of the opportunity to download it, but also generally access to the Internet. It is also sad that, thanks to this norm, the government of the country received the right to fully “wiretap” traffic. And also that Sarkozy set a precedent with this bill. It's only the beginning.
PS. It’s not in vain that I wrote in the headline about “consumers of illegal content”. Because this stupid law is designed specifically for them, and not for those who distribute this same content. Sarkozy is about to shoot a sparrow from a cannon. Instead of doing business. There is a suspicion that providers will not be happy either. Exclude from the general traffic that which falls on illegal content, what will remain?
