More recently, we summed up the first results of the uToodle contest or “Create your own lessons!”. Anyone could create a lesson about any of the Google products and share it with other users.
The winner was Alexei Stepanov. See its uToodle about Google Dictionaries !
Alex agreed to share experience with novice lesson creators.
1. Alexei, how did you find out about the uToodle contest?
I was looking for something in the Google help system and came across a contest message. I thought that the idea of creating educational materials deserves attention and it will be necessary to take part.
2. Why did you choose Google Dictionaries?
I believe that the subject of translation from foreign languages is very relevant on the Internet. Thanks to the Internet, users have the opportunity to communicate with the whole world, but this possibility is of little use if you cannot understand what they want to tell you about at the other end of the world. As a result, many users are closed within their national segment of the Internet. Previously, the English language was a kind of bridge between different cultures, but now thanks to the Translator and Google Dictionaries, the translation process has been greatly simplified - people from different countries can freely communicate with each other without even knowing a single foreign language.
3. What program was used to create uToodle?
To create uToodle, I used Camtasia Studio 6. I think this program is ideal for creating interesting educational screencasts.
4. Was it difficult to create uToodle?
In principle, no. First you had to choose an interesting topic, then decide on the list of functions that I wanted to talk about, well, then there was the process of creating uToodle itself with a few adjustments during editing.
5. You wrote in the title that this is Part One. Are you planning to create lessons in the future?
The fact is that initially I wanted to describe a lot more translation functions. However, he considered that three minutes of video would be the best option for the viewer to perceive. So I decided to break uToodle into pieces. In the future I’m going to finish uToodle about translations, as well as create new lessons about Google Patents, Google News, Google Alerts, etc. I want as many people as possible to learn that Google is more than just a search. Also, I want to show how to perform an effective search using the Google search engine. That is why I started to run a blog stalex7.blogspot.com , dedicated to Google technology.
6. What advice can you give to beginners?
Search for interesting Google features and share them with people through uToodle;)
Thank you Alexey!
