Student startups will receive their award

The Higher School of Economics, together with the British Higher School of Design, has established a new award designed to encourage entrepreneurial initiatives among students. On December 12, the first Student Startup of the Year award ceremony will be held . Winners will be determined in four categories: 1. “Student Startup of the Year” 2. “Business Person of the Year” 3. “Most Effective Solution” 4. “Design Solution” Organizers want to encourage beautiful and effective entrepreneurial decisions and note the creative approach to building a new business . If you are not a student, but you have your own project and you are under 30 years old, you can also be nominated for a prize.

    Among the jury members:

    1. Dmitry Molchanov, chairman of the board of directors of Domostroy,
    2. Leonid Feigin, creative director of Direct Design studio,
    3. Konstantin Bocharsky, journalist and creator of the Ideas Territory project.
as well as other successful entrepreneurs and experts.

The Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award is not the first initiative of the Higher School of Economics in the field of supporting innovative entrepreneurship. In 2009, the competition " Business of Innovative Technologies " (BIT) will be held for the sixth time , which brings together active entrepreneurs, venture investors and reputable experts. In addition, the annual competition " VIMBI"where the best innovative business ideas are awarded (its final will take place just the other day - December 6 in St. Petersburg).

As a participant in the BIT-Soft SPb contest , who presented his project there and took second place with him this year , I’ll say that such events are undoubtedly very useful for young projects, and the main thing here is not prizes and regalia at all, but the feedback from experts that you receive during your participation and make new acquaintances, including with potential partners and investors.

“First of all, for projects, participating in such events is a kind of PR,” says Dmitry Repin, professor at the HSE, organizer of the competition. - “They fall into a certain spotlight, everyone will find out about them, everyone wants to interview them, investors resort to them with offers. For example, within BIT, projects are growing. You come, and you have the opportunity to participate in parties and communicate with experienced people and experts. And through this participation you grow, gain professionalism, understand how you better structure your business, find people and resources. ”

As for the Student Startup of the Year award, the appearance of such an event is especially relevant in the light of the recent Runet Prize, which over the five years of its existence has evolved from a professional award into a gala concert of domestic stars of show business, diluted with the presentation of gilded figurines to sponsors and partners of the event.
