Congratulations SU on Jam Day!

Do you know that today is the real birthday of the SU domain zone? It was September 19, 1990 that the corresponding entry appeared in the InterNIC database. Thus, SU is now celebrating its eighteenth birthday. We can say that SU did live up to its coming of age.

The domain zone SU was created for use in all countries that were previously part of the USSR. Its first administrator was the Association of Soviet Users of UNIX. Initially, the SU zone was considered exclusively as temporary, which was supposed to provide the post-Soviet space with domains in the transition period. The ISO registered country code service committee has set a maximum SU code reservation period of 50 years.

However, almost from the very appearance of the SU domain zone, it was almost constantly under threat of closure. Particularly active pressure on it began after the emergence of national zones RU, UA and others like them. Until now, many people are sure that the SU domain zone is superfluous. However, in the summer of this year, the Committee for the Service of Registered Codes of the countries of the International Organization for Standardization made changes to the databases. Now the SU code is reserved indefinitely. This means that the struggle that has been waged in recent years over this domain zone has ended successfully. And we can with good conscience congratulate SU on adulthood!
