Google at the Searchonomics conference announced the Google Gadget Ventures pilot program . The goal of this program is to “revitalize the economic ecosystem around gadgets” (hereinafter referred to as a press release quote).
The program has two directions. Firstly, this is an opportunity for developers of Google gadgets to receive a grant of $ 5,000 for the development of their creations. Developers can apply for this grant if their gadget is located in the Google directory "and has at least 250,000 page views weekly." Applicants must provide a detailed plan on how they will use the grant to improve their programs.
Google’s second proposal is an investment of $ 100,000 "for developers who want to build a business using Google gadgets." Applicants should be among the recipients of a grant of $ 5,000 (i.e., the initial amount is a kind of test to find out what developers can do with a small amount). In order to apply for an investment from Google, applicants must submit a business plan “How do you plan to create a viable business around the gadget platform”.
Thus, Google encourages third-party developers that "gives them [developers] the opportunity to expand and diversify the world of gadgets in a profitable and sustainable way [for Google]." In other words, third-party developers help make money for the corporation, for which they receive a little cash from it. Win-win in action.
