Glitches and shortcomings of ubuntu

Hello. Actually, the title already explains what will be described below. But I still want to add a few words. Firstly, I understand that a certain number of errors are not glitches of ubuntu itself, but GNOM’s or individual applications’s imperfections. But today I decided to write on behalf of a simple user who doesn’t care what language the program is written in, and in what way the system components interact. Secondly, I am a dedicated ubuntu user. In fact, I have 3 computers, and everyone has this Linux. Therefore, I believe that I have the right to write about the shortcomings of my favorite software, from which I am unlikely to leave anywhere. Here we start.

    1. Keyboard layout. The bug turns out to be fixed.

This glitch appeared on one machine out of three. The fact is that the keyboard settings in the gnome are not saved, so each time you turn on the computer, you have to reinstall the Russian layout.
It is treated by directly entering the switch settings in xorg.conf. But after that, the keyboard layout indicator flatly refuses to display the current language.

    upd
Habrauser maniak said that if you update your distribution, then this bug is already fixed for you. You just need to remove the gnome’s settings for the keyboard (~ / .gconf / desktop / gnome / peripherals / keyboard) and remove the shamanism in xorg.conf (if you made it).

    2. Glitches in the paths in the nautilus.

A very interesting problem. Even a little difficult to explain. I have a number of folders on my computer, in which there are several hundred files and there are also subfolders. So, if you go to a subfolder while all the files of the current directory are displayed, and then click "Back", you can see such a nice result:
    Actually, the result

After that, the nautilus generally does not want to go anywhere and refuses to work.

    3. The gnome hangs tight when the mounted device is unavailable. A

long-known glitch to me personally is a bug and terribly annoying. A gnome just stops working if a ball is not available, mounted for example from a server. And, of course, no one opens the files located there. I just want to work, for example, in a text editor, or open a document on a completely different device, no.

    4. Resolution of applications written in python.

One of my computers, so to speak, is EeePC. There, of course, ubuntu also stands. And just at a resolution of less than 800 × 600 this very unpleasant glitch is observed. All programs written in python (for example, Exaile or CCSM) completely refuse to display normally at low screen resolution. They literally jump to different corners of the display when activating a control.
Treatment: do not use programs written in python. He didn’t come up with anything smarter.
By the way, why does this happen with these programs, no one knows?

    5. Brakes when calling the menu item "Exit ...". TREATMENT FOUND !!!

This glitch is observed only on one computer, and it is mine. Apparently, I was incredibly lucky, but the appearance of the logout dialog should wait 3 minutes. This is clearly overkill.
He cured by creating such nice little buttons in the panel menu with elementary commands:
    Buttons
    upd
As the user of @Kroops suggested, in sessions you need to turn on the power management service, which some unscrupulous comrades from the same forum.ubuntu.ru considered necessary only for laptops.

    6. Disadvantage: they impudently threw displayconfig-gtk from the menu.

What for? I do not understand. Instead, the applications, which could be used to configure at least something, installed the stupid gnome-display-properties, which cannot even correctly determine the screen refresh rate.
Of course, displayconfig-gtk is still here. You can also call it all by entering its name in the console, or the menu for launching arbitrary commands, but you don’t know about it, do you?

    7. Some programs do not quite correctly register themselves in the main menu.

Take, for example, AptonCD. After installation in the "Administration" menu, the start button flaunts with the command / usr / bin / aptoncd. What will happen after such a launch? The program will swear at the inability to work with packages and so on. The command should look like this: gksudo / usr / bin / aptoncd. For such defects, ordinary people don’t switch to Linux.

    8. The “user settings” item in the visual effects settings has disappeared.

Well, I think all compiz-fuzion users are aware of this problem. Degradation on the face. It’s uncomfortable. It is impossible to switch to "Standard Effects" and then return to your settings.

    9. The corpses of incorrectly disconnected flash drives in the nautilus.

Sometimes it happens that some comrade who sat behind your computer does not know that the sticks must be disabled safely, etc. etc. By the way, this glitch occurs randomly and is the prerogative of only some devices, especially mobile phones, which ubuntu does not remove, as if they were not properly disconnected. As a result, we get a bunch of mounted devices that hang in the nautilus.

    10. Glitch with dragging files past the menu item "Network Servers".

We open any folder, take the file from the desktop and start dragging it to this folder. At that time, when it will be located on the “Network Servers” item, ubuntu considers it necessary to view the entire LAN, I don’t know what, think a little, and now no matter where you release the file, the OS will give you an error that it cannot copy to "network: ///". And who wanted to copy it there?
Here is a highly artistic illustration demonstrating this process: Treatment: copy files more accurately. But such an error is still somewhat distracting from normal operation. 11. PulseAudio.

Before him, everything was fine, the grass was greener, the sun was shining brighter, and so on. It seems that someone wrote somewhere that by default this sound subsystem is not activated, but the fact is on the face. After installing ubuntu, the video slowed down, the sound was chewing. It was cured by the sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio purge command. But Audacity stopped working normally. Now, having looked at each sound device and thought for a couple of minutes, he joyfully announces that he will not be able to work with it. I googled about my problem, it didn’t help = (

    12. Screenshots are not taken during the open context menu.

This problem was clarified during the preparation of the article, the picture is taken, and that’s it. I don’t attach screenshots, respectively =)

It has long been known that there is no perfect system. In ubuntu, the number of errors that annoy me is double-digit. On Windows, this number consists of three digits, and poppy is not for a person living in the province. Anyway, I’m not going to leave my favorite system, but you?

    Same thing on my site
