Conclude a contract (action thriller)

I’ll tell an interesting story - it happened about six months ago.

An order comes from freelance from a certain company which needs a turnkey site, talked, received a statement of work, announced the amount and terms. The representative of the customer (as it turned out later - their office admin) says - come, everything is ok.

The company turned out to be in the Moscow Region, the office was large and solid (the whole floor of the building at a certain automobile plant), everything was as it should — beautifully, stylishly, in a negotiated expensive “carved” table, pictures of their products everywhere (I will not say what exactly, but they sell expensive equipment from USA).

When talking already on the spot, it turns out that they had already worked with several freelancers and companies and all of their results were not satisfied. The chief said that they forced to return the prepayment and they returned. Naturally, I ask you to show the results - I see quite solid work, completely within the specified price range and even better.

Then it turns out that the budget is one third lower than we originally agreed and they do not want to discuss anything. I don’t know what happened to me then, I never take up an order if I see such setups at the very first stages ... maybe it just became a pity for the time spent negotiating and going to them - I agree, but in order to avoid any sort of showdowns and “returns” - I decide to do the layout without prepayment and, if approved, already layout / program and sign the contract.

A few days later, after several changes and corrections, the layout was approved, I come to them again - they announce that the budget “has lost another 15%”, “we are obliged to pay a penalty of 1000 rubles per day of delay if you do not meet the deadlines” and some other crazy I can’t remember the demand. I turn around and leave - this admin catches me in the corridor and almost tearfully asks me to get to work anyway "the head of the kazel, I got it already, we’ve been tormenting this site for half a year, please take on -15% to cancel it’s impossible, but we

    ’ll cancel other requirements ... ” Am I an idiot? ) I agree ...
3 weeks pass - done according to their TK and the wishes of the "turnkey site" with layout, filling and cms. The contract has two weeks left until the deadline. I post the site to our hosting - show them. They are satisfied with everything, there are no comments, they like the design and layout and functionality, in general - they are 100% satisfied. We agree that within three days we expect from them the remainder of the amount ... a week passes - nothing. I'm calling.

"We found a company in the United States that does the same for $ 50 - we don’t need your services anymore - return the prepayment." I immediately recall about “several companies and freelancers who have already worked with ...” Hearing this is at least ridiculous, firstly because the design is accepted and approved by the signed act, the site is completely ready and just as approved (but so far only in words). About a large, high-quality site for $ 50 - I just keep silent. I understand very well that they’re just bred to cut the price ...

In general, I just got so fucked up with such impudence, you cannot say otherwise. I poke them with my nose into the contract and the corresponding paragraphs. I wait a few more days - they call. “Good - you don’t have to return the prepayment, but we won’t give the rest of the payment.” I poke my nose into the contract again, prepare a letter with an official notification of the work done and send them a copy by email, I say that if we do not receive payment, I send the letter by registered mail and go to court. "I give 3 days.

After 2 days they transfer the rest of the amount, they sign an act on the acceptance of all work. All the papers are brought to our doorstep by the courier.

The result is a lot of expended energy and nerves, even taking into account the fact that we defended our rights. Do not work with people if you feel the slightest inconsistencies and suspicions of dishonesty. Required Make a contract with you.
