Cross-browser use of data: URL

After the articles of the picture in the body of the page using data: URL and data URL in IE, one of the readers wrote to me and suggested a method for using base64 encoding in CSS files under IE (how to do this in HTML files is described in the last article). After that, a couple of months passed before I had the opportunity to take up the consideration of this method in more detail. However, after several weeks of research, a very encouraging picture was obtained.

What is it about? IE (up to version 7 inclusive) does not support the protocol data:URL, and with it base64 encoding of external files and their inclusion directly in the body of the required document (whether it be HTML or CSS / JS file). However, if you consider the use of the protocolmhtml(which, of course, is only supported in IE), a lot becomes clearer, and base64 encoding can be used to the full.
