Winchester specifically for video recording

Hitachi first released a hard drive specifically optimized for video recording. This is a CinemaStar 5K500 dual-plate model with a total capacity of 500 GB. During intensive recording operations, it differs from conventional hard drives in a lower noise level and lower power consumption. In standby mode, it consumes only 3.2 watts. The volume in standby mode is 22 decibels, in operation - 24 decibels. It is recommended to install such a HDD in digital media consoles, media centers and DVD recorders.

CinemaStar 5K500 is the first hard drive based on the new CoolSpin design. Actually, this explains the 30% lower power consumption compared to the previous Hitachi model in the same line (CinemaStar P7K500).

Winchesters for recording personal videos are a very fast-growing market. According to IDC forecasts, this sector will grow by an average of 14% per year from 2007 to 2012.
