Analytics, direct visits to the site

I hope I didn’t miss the blog, but I did not find a separate blog about analytics or the statistics system.

Faced with such a strange thing: the number of direct transitions (what is called direct in Google Analytics) began to increase, this never happened, but now it suddenly happened. At the same time, the total number of visits remains virtually unchanged, direct grows, and the remaining sources fall accordingly (i.e., according to statistics, there are fewer and fewer transitions)

. We added to the counter, the line that changes CookieTimeout - it was six months, now 30 minutes
(here for details about CookieTimeout code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/gaJSApiCampaignTracking.html#_gat.GA_Tracker_._setCookieTimeout ).
After changing the counter, the statistics of course changed, traffic was redistributed between sources in favor of direct.
But the eighth week is already underway, and direct traffic continues to increase, the rest are falling. Even Adwords - before the data coincided with the data in Analytics - the difference did not exceed 2%, now the difference is up to 16% (before, Adwords and Analytics for the selected date showed for example 8000 clicks per period, now Adwords shows 8300, and Analytics 7000).

An active advertising campaign (neither online nor offline) has been gone for three months already.

    Can someone explain this?
