Yahoo outsourcing its VoIP service to Jajah

Yahoo converts voice traffic from its IM pager to Jajah , a VoIP telephony company . Now all calls from the Yahoo Messenger program will be made through the Jajah network, which has more than 200 points of presence in all regions of the world, as well as billing and user support. In theory, users should not notice the difference, although Jajah software uses a proprietary codec. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

For Jajah, this is a very important deal that can greatly strengthen its market position. In general, it is one of the fastest growing VoIP services in the world. The subscriber base has been growing exponentially since the founding of the Austrian startup in 2005 (now the head office has already moved from Austria to California) and to date has exceeded 10 million accounts.

Yahoo Messenger has 97 million registered users. It is not known how many of them have activated the voice function at least once. The conversation between two PCs is free, a call to a landline in the United States costs 1 cent per minute, calls to other countries are more expensive. For $ 2.49 a month, you can buy a phone number that is indistinguishable from a regular one, and receive calls to your computer, like a regular phone.
