Masterhost prosecuted for hosting a pirate site

Masterhost company was found guilty of piracy because of the site that provides the services. According to Vedomosti, the case against the provider was won by Content and Law LLC, which owns the rights to the works posted on zaycev.net. "Masterhost" must pay the plaintiff 140 thousand rubles.

According to the Moscow Arbitration Court, the defendants were Masterhost and LLC Metkom (the owner of the site). Co-owner of Masterhost Leonid Filatov said that he considers the court decision a “legal curiosity” and promises to appeal it.
As Irina Tulubyeva, Managing Partner of Tulubyev, Osipov & Partners Law Firm, noted, this is the first case in Russia when a hosting provider has been held accountable for hosting a pirated site. Under Russian law, liability for such violations is usually the responsibility of the owner of the portal. But the court’s decision Tulubieva considers fair: the landlord can also be held accountable for renting out premises for a porn club, she says.
