The state of Antigua received the right to pirated software

The World Trade Organization has allowed the tiny state of Antigua and Barbuda to steal licensed software, feature films, music and other digital goods that are protected by copyright. You can steal under two conditions: 1) if the goods belong to US copyright holders; 2) in the amount of not more than $ 21 million per year.

WTO decision - part of compensation for illegal blockade of gaming sitesfrom the USA. The islands of Antigua and Barbuda are one of the largest centers of online gambling, but the US authorities banned such games in their own country and began to block citizens from accessing foreign gaming sites. Antigua and Barbuda filed a complaint with the WTO and won the case, but the United States, of course, is in no hurry to implement the decision of the international organization, which they founded not to pay huge fines themselves (the damage of Antigua is estimated at $ 3.44 billion per year).

Since the US is not going to compensate for the damage, the WTO began to look for other ways to take money from the debtor. Authorizing pirated products is one such way. Lawyers say that this type of compensation - issuing permission to one state to violate the intellectual rights of another state - is extremely rare. According to experts, other states may file similar lawsuits against the United States, because the Americans block all online casinos, without exception.
