Remote work boosts spirit, reduces stress

If an employee works not at the office, but at home, then his job satisfaction and level of loyalty to the employer will increase. No need to stand in traffic jams, rush to public transport, push around on the bus - all this saves a lot of nerves. These conclusions were made by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania, who collected and analyzed data on 13 thousand remote workers of various American firms.

Work at home is becoming more popular in the USA. Last year, 45 million Americans turned to this method of work, which is 4 million more than in 2003. Moreover, over the past couple of years there has been a sharp jump (by about 60%) in the number of people who work from home regularly, that is, at least once a month. According to experts, their number will continue to grow with the spread of broadband Internet access.

Until now, some employers and workers are afraid of remote work. The former believe that it makes it difficult for colleagues to communicate, while the latter fear that a career suffers because of this. However, the researchers found no evidence of either one or the other. On the contrary, they talk about additional benefits both for a particular company and for the whole society: lower office costs and unloading the city transport system, lowering the level of exhaust gases, etc.

Specialists from Pennsylvania are silent about one side aspect of remote work: it is too corrupting, so it can be difficult to refuse it later. For example, yesterday it became known that the new leadership of the largest American telecom AT&T turned out to be strongly opposed to the “remote workers” and in strict form ordered that all of them be immediately returned to cubes . About 10-12 thousand people will return to jobs. There was no limit to the indignation of employees, and now a real scandal erupts around this .
