Delivery dates are postponed, a fresh look at eeePC software for Linux.

The dates are postponed due to the desire of the manufacturer to "further refine the software"
“Despite the keen public interest in the allegedly ultra-budget portable Eee PC, Asustek Computer developers decided to delay the start of Eee PC shipments for another month. According to suppliers, the novelty will appear on store shelves only at the end of October.
Recall that before the official release of the Eee PC laptop was planned to be held during the third week of September, however, due to the reform of the company's marketing strategies, this event was decided to be postponed.
It should be noted that after testing the first samples of Eee PC, Asustek received many comments and suggestions from professionals and individual consumers, many of which touched on the issue of the announcement of Linux-based applications for Eee PC. Some argue that it was this fact that could affect the release date of the new item. Nevertheless, despite the fact that specific software will be added to the model kit, the price of the Eee PC will not change. ”

We can say that this product from Asus will occupy an intermediate position between PDAs and laptops. Why? I’ll explain now.
Firstly, this handsome guy (the working name is “Terminal”) is more functional than a regular PDA, but at the same time not as productive as a laptop. For those who do not need it, this performance. First of all, the Terminal will be positioned as the first computer for a child, as a computer for housewives, well, it may well be a suitable purchase for those people who want to bring mobility to their lives in addition to the existing desktop computer. By the way, unlike UMPC, this unit will not be cut down when driving through bumps: there is not a single moving part inside, the hard disk space is occupied by 4 GB of flash memory (which can be expanded using the SD card slot).

In addition, this, so to speak, mini-laptop will be an excellent help in the educational process. Various training programs are installed at the Terminal (periodic table, virtual planetarium, Wikipedia), for them, of course, you will need synchronization with the Internet. In the future, it will be possible to establish training programs in any sciences in which the child will be interested.

Linux is the system shell; inside, in addition to tutorials, you can find a complete set of programs for working on the Internet (including Skype and ICQ), the Open Office package (full compatibility with all Microsoft formats), a package for working with media (video, photo, manager).

Inside the Terminal, there are Intel Celeron 900 MHz processors (based on the Banias core), which, coupled with a dual-cell battery, provides 1.5-2 hours of battery life (an option with a four-cell battery is also available). Next year, with the introduction of Low Power Intel Architecture, the Terminal (as well as umpc) will be equipped with new compactly packaged, productive single-core processors released using 45-nanometer technology, which will allow these devices to work on battery 1.5 times longer.
The terminal is also equipped with three USB ports, LAN and Wi-Fi adapters, 256 (512) MB of RAM, a 7-inch (in the future 9) display, a modem and a web camera.
