Education Minister promised to return astronomy to school curriculum

Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva considers it necessary to return the lessons of astronomy to the school curriculum.

“I think this is necessary. If you remember, we had an hour, and I think that this hour should be returned, ”she said at a press conference on Wednesday, answering a question about the possibility of returning the subject Astronomy to the school curriculum.

The Minister noted that she could not yet say exactly how the item would be returned. “But astronomy returns will be accurate,” she said.

Astronomy has ceased to be a school subject in 2008, since then its elements are included in the course of geography and physics. This was due to the fact that none of the astronomy textbooks that existed at that time were allowed to be used in schools.
