US Army builds a new supercomputer center

The U.S. Army plans to spend $ 105 million over five years building a new supercomputer center based at the NASA Ames Research Center in California. Stanford University will lead the construction of a research center. They will be assisted by engineers and scientists from NASA, the University of Maryland at Morgan, the University of New Mexico and the University of Texas.

The goal of the new center is to use computer modeling to test various new military applications and hardware, for example, wireless technologies on the battlefield, advanced war alert systems using biological weapons, and lightweight materials for army vehicles.

“Using the most advanced high-performance computer resources, a research center of this magnitude has enormous potential for innovative technologies,” said Stanford Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Charbel Farhat.
