MTS, VimpelCom and Megafon received 3G licenses
The Big Three mobile operators - Russian companies Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (MBT), Vimpelcom OJSC (VIP) and Megafon OJSC - have received licenses for the provision of third-generation cellular services, 3G. Information on this was reported on Friday by the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of the Russian Federation.
According to the results of the competition, MegaFon took the first place in terms of points, MTS took the second, and VimpelCom took the third. The license for the provision of cellular services, covering the entire territory of Russia, was granted only to Megafon. The MTS license does not apply to Penza, and the VimpelCom license does not apply to the territory of the Far East.
The competition was also attended by New Telephone Company, Chelyabinsk Cellular Communications, Svyazinform, a cellular operator in the Kaliningrad Region, and Aurora-Telecom.
