Ru-Center starts hosting

In March 2006, the non-profit organization Ru-Center , which distributes address space on the Internet, announced its intention to provide hosting services. And the intended goals are being realized, judging by the latest message from the company.

“Hosting is not a product, but a service,” says Ru-Center and publishes tariffs for its hosting. According to the company, these rates were calculated in such a way that the user could choose suitable conditions - not limiting the capabilities of his site, but also not overpaying for extra "features". “In my opinion, a fairly simple hosting is offered at average market prices,” says Andrei Kondakov, business development director of Zenon N.S.P. . “Perhaps prices are slightly below average.”

Ru-Center makes recommendations: “A static site with little traffic can be placed at the initial rate. A dynamic site, albeit with low traffic, will require a higher tariff. The highest rate is designed for sites with high traffic. It’s also suitable for online projects (stores) requiring, for example, payment by plastic card. ”

Industry representatives see Ru-Center hosting initiatives as completely natural. “Based on the experience of foreign colleagues, you can see that it is completely normal for a large hoster to become an official domain name registrar (as our company did a few years ago),” says Andrei Tsumanov, marketing director of the telecommunication company “Caravan”. “The opposite is also the norm - when a large registrar starts offering hosting services.”

In the same vein, Andrei Kondakov said: “Leaving aside the prospects of simple hosting in terms of offers from Google and Microsoft, I’ll say that the hosting registrar is quite common. And this step of Ru-Center seems logical. I suppose that the new service may force the partners of the domain registration company, which are also hosting providers, to seriously think about continuing the partnership with a competitor. ”
According to Andrei Tsumanov, one of the most effective methods for assessing the "size" of hosting providers is the number of domains on its ns-servers: "According to this indicator, a registrar who has been working for 10 years on the market has every chance to be on the top lines of hoster ratings." At the same time, the hosting tariffs from Ru-Center in “Caravan” are considered “normal, slightly higher than the average market prices”.

Andrei Tsumanov suggested that the company will be able to quickly gain customer mass in its hosting area. “It will be much more difficult for Ru-Center to keep customers on the hosting without having many years of experience in this area.”
