EU countries do not know how to effectively deal with spam

The countries of the European Union are not working effectively in the field of applying laws aimed at protecting against spam, which is becoming more sophisticated and criminalized. This is stated by representatives of the European Commission, reports Reuters .

According to statistics, more than 80% of all emails are spam. Of particular danger in this case is the increasing number of letters urging recipients to provide this or that financial information.

Representatives of the EU cite Holland as an example: in three years, the spam flow from servers located in this country decreased by 85%. Investments in the fight against unsolicited newsletters amounted to more than 500 thousand euros, a special state agency to combat spam was created, whose employees work around the clock. In Finland, the amount of spam that reaches the owners of electronic mailboxes has decreased to 30% (in July 2003 its share was 80%).

The losses caused by spam are huge: in Germany - 3.5 billion euros, in the UK - 1.9 billion. Total losses on a global scale, according to Ferris Research, in 2005 amounted to 39 billion euros.
