WiFi network in the city

In the English city of Norwich, you can go online by strolling along any of its streets. This city is one giant access point, reports the BBC .

To provide wireless Internet access, more than 200 antennas were installed in Norwich, which provide full coverage in three areas and the city center. Communication when moving from street to street does not disappear.

Access points are not only on the streets, but also in the city hall, libraries and at the university. At the same time, the city network is in no way protected, and users are warned that sending important information through it is not safe.
In addition, in order to avoid competition with commercial access providers, the speed in the city network is limited: 256 Kb / s for ordinary users, 1 Mb / s for employees of state institutions. Sessions are limited in time - after 60 minutes on the Web you have to connect again.
