The Swedish company IKEA has decided to modernize its system of selling goods. To manage to serve a huge number of customers in ordinary stores, which has doubled over the past few years, the British division of IKEA is creating its own online store.
Peter Hegsted, managing director of IKEA's UK business, said the virtual store will open this year after months of pre-testing. “We could open it tomorrow, but we want to finally make sure that we have created a viable model,” he says.
“The largest sales will continue to come from ordinary stores, but perhaps 5-6% will be delivered via the Internet,” added Peter Hegsted.
