Yandex has deleted both pirated links and links to the websites of the copyright holder

Yesterday, representatives of the company "Yandex" stated that they would not fulfill the requirement of the Moscow City Court and remove pirated links from search results. But in this conflict, the position of Gazprom-Media prevailed. The rightholder has achieved his. Today, Yandex has removed all links to pages with pirated content from the search in order to minimize the risk of the Yandex.Video service being blocked by Roskomnadzor, the company said.

Roskomnadzor’s ultimatum expired on the evening of August 30, that is, three days from the date of sending the notice to Yandex. After that, access to the video service could be blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation.

The company stressed that Yandex cannot separate controversial content from legal content , therefore, links to resources where the content is hosted by the copyright holder may be among the distant ones: “As a result, users lost the ability to find legal content on Yandex, and resources„ Gazprom Media, ”quite possibly, lost part of the traffic,” the company noted.

“Yandex” still considers the Moscow City Court’s position inconsistent and intends to appeal: “In the definitions, we are required to remove“ illegally posted information ”from the yandex.ru site — TV series owned by TV channels of the Gazprom-Media group. We continue to believe that the requirements are not justified and do not comply with current legislation and the practice of its application. We will challenge them in court, - said instatement - In the absence of measures on our part, there is a risk that Roskomnadzor will apply a blockage to Yandex.Video. The blocking of Yandex.Video would lead to the inaccessibility of all yandex.ru, since this service is located at yandex.ru/video , and most providers can block traffic only by the domain name ”.

Recall that on August 24 it became known about the decision of the Moscow City Court, which obliges Yandex to remove from the list of references in the search engine links to pirated copies of shows and series owned by Gazprom-Media. On August 27, Roskomnadzor sent a notice to Yandex about the need to stop access to pirated content. On August 28, Roskomnadzor explained that the Yandex.Video service could be blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation, if by the evening of August 30 it does not remove links to pirated websites. Now the conflict must be settled.

Tomorrow Roskomnadzor will verify the fulfillment by Yandex of the court’s requirements.
