An artist from New York has printed openwork armor and a prosthesis on a 3D printer.
Self-taught artist from New York Melissa Ng has been using 3D printing technology since 2013. What was originally sketched in an amateur designer's blog, eventually turned into works of art.
It took 228 hours to create this armor called the “Sleeper Regalia”. During this time, the artist engaged in 3D-modeling and scanning and elaboration of individual patterns. The artist admits that she had to apply skills that she did not have.
It all started with sketches.
To implement the project, the artist has teamed up with the New York company Shapeways - she prints on the high-tech equipment for 3D printing models according to customer drawings.
After printing the armor, they were painted manually and with a spray gun, polished and tried on the model during the day.

In addition to the armor, the artist made masks and jewelry. She describes her work as "the visualization of beauty, spontaneity, variability and chaos of sleep."
In addition to the “Sleeping Mask”, the artist made a mask for Norman Reedus in the video “It Just Feels” .
Together with the company Thinking Robot Studios and the Canadian College of Art and Design of the province of Nova Scotia, the artist developed this prosthesis. From the moment of concept creation to the preparation of the prototype, 15 days passed.
