Visual Studio App Center Distribution Service Improvements
- Transfer
Here at the Visual Studio App Center, we try to incorporate the ideas that users are obsessed with into our daily routine. Earlier this year, we began work on a wide reach of users to better understand them and prioritize products. These efforts have helped us better understand users and prioritize last quarter. However, as we grow, we, unfortunately, cannot cover as much as we would like.
To continue to interact with as many users as possible, we created a repository on GitHub specifically for this purpose. We use it to track: monthly iterations from the team, feature requests and community interest in specific features. We are making changes to align our priorities for the coming quarters based on the wishes of the audience.
I would like to highlight some of the changes we made to the distribution service based on what I learned from the feedback. All these changes are available now:

Now you can do mailings in several directions at once. These areas may include groups, individual testers, or all together. Enter the group names or email addresses of the testers on the Destinations tab.

You can also set several group assignments in the assembly configuration and in the Azure DevOps (AzDO) App Center Distribute task, which will allow you to configure a more customized Mobile CI solution. Go to the build of the configuration model in the App Center, install it through the App Center build API or through the App Center CLI. The AzDo task can be installed as a UI widget.

Now you can distribute releases without notification by email to your testers. This is available in the distribution service, assembly configuration, App Center distribution CLI, and AzDO configuration.

App Center now supports disabled releases. A disabled release allows you to revoke access for all testers to the release instead of controlling access for individual testers. Switching between disabled and enabled is very easy through the UI, CLI and API.

Finally, we added a sort function for the release table. Now you can sort releases by version and release time.
These were the latest changes to the distribution service. There will be many exciting enhancements to the App Center in the coming months. Check out the changes to the build and distribution service on appcenter.ms and feel free to leave us a feedback on GitHub!
