Epson WorkForce Enterprise - a year and a half later. Compilation of cases and interesting facts

Last time, when I first talked about the " Level 80 Printer " - Epson WorkForce Enterprise - on a blog that prints color documents at speeds up to 100 pages per minute and comes with an ink supply of up to 100,000 prints, during a discussion of the device in comments and private messages is often seen quite a logical question: "and for whom all created such a device?" .

The question is fair because, in fact, it is a very expensive device of the A3 format, which in view of its design features and capabilities (color inkjet printing technology with a fixed print head and monstrous endurance) looks like a ready-made competitor to circulation (printing) color machines.

But this is still not the main and only thing for which this MFP was developed!

Now, after more than a year and a half from the moment of the previous publication, it makes sense to cut the results and look at a couple of examples which clients chose WorkForce Enterprise as their main “workhorse” and why.

And to make it even more interesting, I will share facts about the capabilities of the device, which we ourselves did not suspect when it was announced. I promise that there will be no “copy-paste” of official press releases: I will tell you in my own words, briefly and on the case. I ask all interested under cat.

Epson WorkForce Enterprise at school printing house

... and, of course, the first success story on the list turned out to be exactly the one in which Enterprise nevertheless acted as a printing press . That's what I need.

By the end of the school year, there is an urgent need to print a large volume of documents in a short period of time. According to school administration staff, “regular” (desktop) printers cannot cope with such print volumes, and are not designed for such a load. In addition, you need to print photographs, letters, documents - and all on different types of papers of different densities ... For this, apparatuses are needed very “omnivorous” and universal.

It is logical that a similar print volume also affects the cost of ownership of the printing equipment fleet. Not for the better.

As a result, the management decided to create its own full-cycle printing house with a printer and staff , in order to ensure independence of the school from third-party contractors and to allow the necessary materials to be prepared as soon as possible.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Ishchuk, director of secondary school No. 103, shares his impressions: “When comparing specifications with similar solutions based on laser printing technology, Epson WorkForce Enterprise WF-C20590D4TWF remained out of competition. Only three months have passed since the school was opened, and so far the new apparatus has not been fully loaded. But now we can say that modern inkjet printing is pleasantly surprising - one universal device has replaced a whole fleet of different printing devices, providing us with a lot of new features, so we are completely satisfied with the chosen solution . "

It is wonderful. But further - more interesting.

Alco-Pole selects MFP Epson WorkForce Enterprise

    Alco-Pole specializes in beer distribution.

And here I finally can give an example of an organization that prints just an incredible amount of documents , since any trade and shipping operation must be confirmed as such. You need to print shipping documents and invoices, sales invoices, specifications, technical documentation, packing lists, quality certificates, letters of guarantee, etc. Moreover, many consist of hundreds of pages, without any exaggeration!

Until 2018, the St. Petersburg distribution center of Alco-Polyus used a fleet of laser printers. A total of about 10 devices.

I think you can imagine the disadvantages of such a number of lasers: the high cost of the print (taking into account all consumables, and not just refilling the toner) and a significant amount of maintenance. Periodically require the replacement of failed components (stoves, drums, etc.) and are difficult to repair. In addition, laser printing technology involves strong heating of the toner to “bake” it on the surface of the paper and spreads a tangible smell during continuous operation. A colleague who was in place to assess the feasibility of integrating our MFP into the company’s network noted that the on-site printers were printed almost non-stop, and he had not yet encountered such a strong smell of “chemistry” and ozone in one room. At the same time, as far as I know, the ventilation system worked properly.

And ozone is toxic , contrary to some well-established misconceptions in its magical "healing" properties. In particular, ozonizers are indeed well suited for disinfecting rooms. Yes. When there is nobody in them, and no one comes in to regularly pick up printed documents from a constantly highly zoned room.

So, in November 2017, the company planned to expand the fleet of devices with a couple more devices in connection with growing sales volumes. But realizing that it would not work to increase print productivity infinitely, we decided to consider analogues.

And here Epson arrived with its new WorkForce Enterprise.

As a result of analyzing the capabilities of the devices, we purchased two Epson WorkForce Enterprise MFPs and compared it with competing devices in real-life conditions.

According to the results of the project, now 15 workplaces of operators responsible for the shipment of Alco-Polyus products are provided with our devices.

The customer praises the print quality, high speed of processing PDF files, lower operating costs compared to laser printers. According to them, the savings achieved by using inkjet printing technology amounted to approximately 50% due to lower printing costs and device maintenance costs due to low requirements for paper quality, a small number of resource parts and ease of replacement, as well as low power consumption .

Of course, inkjet printing technology does not involve heating, and ink does not emit any odor when printing. This also contributed to the decision to replace laser with inkjet Enterprise.

The experience of European companies: Epson WorkForce Enterprise in the copy center

Finally, a story from the Unicorn copy & print copy center .

Nearly 400 customers come to the Unicorn Copy Center in Freiburg every day with print orders in formats up to A0.

The main thing such copy centers are valued for is universality. So that you can have documents, and photos, and that without stripes, and “quickly, cheaply, efficiently” ...

Recently, the company decided to purchase a new printing device. After contacting Eich ColorCrafter for advice , the Epson WorkForce Enterprise WF-C20590 Inkjet MFP was selected .

And here I come back to universality :

Employees of nearby business centers often apply for digitization and printing of materials up to A3 format. In addition, a popular service among students is the printing of PDF documents, often often directly from smartphones via WLAN or Bluetooth. Epson WorkForce Enterprise is connected to several computers so that customers can edit files before printing if necessary. At the same time, the MFP easily prints on a variety of types of media, including textured and glossy paper, thin self- carbon paper (see below) and media up to 400 g / m2.

All this, coupled with a print speed of up to 100 pages per minute, reduces latency to a minimum. Since the acquisition, more than 100,000 documents have already been processed and printed.

    And we also found out

You can truly get acquainted with such a complex apparatus and evaluate its functionality only by integrating it into a business process at some enterprise and personally working day after day. Fortunately for us, Publish.com made an excellent review of the IFIs , from which we learned that:

    • WorkForce Enterprise WF-C20590 is suitable for printing on carbonless paper. From the review: “Not every digital processing center can print on such material (for testing we used a cheap Chinese“ carbon copy ”with a density of 50 g / m2). The main problems that arise are sheet jams when passing through the print path or “stove”.
    • Epson guarantees image stability for 100 years when stored in the archive. That's not news. But the fact that many government agencies only allow printing in a printing, but not digital way is interesting. As digital is meant - you guessed it right - laser printing. Our printers print with ink , therefore, they pass the final “formal” test for admissibility of use in state-owned offices, in principle.
    • On printing on envelopes: “When printing on envelopes, the absence of a fuser in the inkjet device also has a positive effect: since envelopes are compressed by cylinders or ribbons in this device, they can be deformed [...] at the places of glued seams, the surface has slightly different printing properties (in thickness and electric charge), which makes it difficult to print some stories, especially dies. Naturally, such problems do not arise on inkjet devices. ”

It would be unfair not to mention the shortcomings found:

    • “If the dies and gradients are of high enough quality, then there are still certain problems with photo images, especially on glossy paper: there is not enough detail in the lights, and the memorable colors are not reproduced accurately enough. And to fix this in the usual way - through the color management tools in RIP - will not work. "These drawbacks can be partially reduced by adjusting the print in the driver, but if you need to get a" beautiful picture ", it is better to use matte paper."

We ourselves, as the opportunity arises, will surely verify this statement. While recording a promotional video:

... to be honest, I didn’t notice a lack of details on the print, but, of course, there wasn’t the same print from the 6-color photo printer for comparison, so I won’t confirm it, but I’ll agree with the manager to make a comparison and share the results.

    To summarize

Such fidbek get constantly when it comes to Epson Enterprise.

Who knows, it is quite possible that monochrome modifications of devices will appear in the future ? .. One thing I can say for sure: our readers and subscribers on Habré are one of the first to know about this.

    Thank you for attention.
