F5 buys NGINX

F5 acquires NGINX to combine NetOps and DevOps and provide customers with consistent application services across all environments. The deal is estimated at approximately $ 670 million.
The development team, including Igor Sysoev and Maxim Konovalov, will continue to develop NGINX already as part of F5.
F5 expects to integrate its best practices in the field of security into the Nginx server, as well as use it in its cloud products. According to Francois Loco-Don, F5 CEO, the merger will allow the company's customers to significantly accelerate the development of containerized applications, and Nginx, in turn, will get even greater opportunities in large business.
Representatives of both companies separately noted that one of the main conditions without which the transaction would not have taken place was to maintain the openness of Nginx.
With today's news, our vision and mission do not change. We continue to help customers build distributed application architectures. We are still creating a platform that optimizes inbound / outbound traffic and APIs. And we are still helping companies transition to microservices. What is changing is our trajectory. F5 shares our mission, vision and values. But they bring a huge amount of additional resources and additional technologies.
Make no mistake: F5 is committed to supporting the NGINX brand and open source technology. Without this obligation, the transaction would not have taken place on either side.
Looking forward, I am pleased with the opportunity to combine the two relevant market leaders. We have additional strengths. F5 is a leader in application infrastructure for networks and security groups. NGINX is a leader in application infrastructure for developers and DevOps teams built on our open source kernel. Our solutions for web and application servers, microservices and API management complement F5 solutions for application management, application security and infrastructure. Even in the case of Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs), where there is some overlap, NGINX has created a lite version for software only that complements the options for cloud, virtual and physical F5 devices.
Gus Robertson, NGINX
The acquisition of the F5 NGINX strengthens our growth path by accelerating our software and transforming multiple clouds. By combining world-class F5 application security applications and rich application services to increase productivity, availability and management along with NGINX's leading application delivery and API management solutions, an unrivaled reputation and brand recognition in the DevOps community, and an extensive open source user base With the code, we bridge the gap between NetOps and DevOps with consistent application services in a multi-tenant enterprise environment.
