Separate profiles for freelancers and customers

    We have divided the profiles of performers and customers in Freelansim so that it is easier to work with the site. Our task was to make the search process for orders or freelancers more intuitive, remove unnecessary or rarely used links, but at the same time leave the switch from role to role as simple as possible for those who place orders and respond to them. We think we did it.

    As it was before

    There was one account for Freelancers for customers and freelancers:

    • In one interface, the user could leave feedback and publish orders;
    • His profile displayed information on completed tasks as well as on published orders;
    • In the reviews section, one could find both feedback from the performers with whom he worked and from customers.

    It was relatively convenient for those who combine both roles in their work - a freelancer and a customer (we have less than 10% of such users). But not very convenient for everyone else:

    • Users confused additional services for freelancers and customers, and sometimes bought the wrong ones;
    • Beginners could not immediately figure out which of the three menu items contains information about the responses posted and the orders placed;
    • Feedback on the work of a freelancer and a customer in one place prevented an objective assessment of the professionalism of a specialist.

    How did

    We split profiles and added an easy way to switch between roles without additional registrations and duplicate accounts.

    All the necessary links are collected in one main menu. It opens by clicking on the avatar in the upper right corner of the site.

    In the same menu, you can switch from one profile to another by clicking on "Log in as a freelancer" or "Log in as a customer." It is very simple - you do not need to register and re-pass verification. Both profiles will be tied to one account and to one mail - alerts about placed orders and left responses, respectively, will come to the same address. Also, both profiles are tied to one account on the service from which you can pay, for example, raising a freelancer profile and highlighting the published order in color.

    Separately, we put a button with access to your personal account in a prominent place - in it, users track their responses and orders.

    We divided the profiles, focusing on the availability of feedback or orders:

    There were only responses in the account.
    For such users, we created a freelancer profile. In order to switch to the customer, you need to click on the profile picture in the upper right corner and select "Login as a customer."

    There were only orders in the account.
    For such users, we created a customer profile. In order to switch to a freelancer, you need to click on the avatar in the upper right corner and select "Login as a freelancer." After that, you need to fill in several fields in the profile, which are mandatory for freelancers, but not for customers - for example, bid or skills.

    The account had orders and responses.
    In this case, we created both profiles. If the last action of the user was the response, then first he will get into his freelancer profile, if the order is in the customer’s profile. You can switch from one to another by clicking on the profile picture in the upper right corner and choosing “Log in as a freelancer” or “Log in as a customer”.

    There were no responses or orders in the
    account. If the user has registered recently, then most likely he has already told us how he wants to work on the portal - look for orders or freelancers. Depending on his choice, we have created a freelancer profile or a customer profile.

    Those whom we could not identify will go to the site for the first time as freelancers. At any time after this, the user will be able to switch to the second profile.

    Now freelancers and customers will only see relevant information in profiles, it will be easier for beginners to get comfortable on the portal. And we are already preparing the next innovation - there will be news about the opening of the beta test soon, do not switch.
