For cyclists: the world's first wearable power meter

Whether a cyclist needs a speed meter or not, everyone decides for himself. It all depends on the approach to training and the ultimate goals. But it is clear that alternatives to this device have not yet been invented to control their own physical condition and plan for reaching peak forms. Probably, many would like to get a “powerful meter”, but here the prices for them bite. Shimano 9000 - about $ 3000, Power2Max FSA Gossamer - about $ 900, Garmin Vector - almost $ 1700. And which is also important - all these models are mounted only in the bike design. Either in the pedal, or in the sleeve, or in the connecting rod.

Irish developers from Brim Drothers presented on Kickstarter the project of a power meter for cyclists Zone DPMX ™, which is guaranteed to “kill” all competitors with two main points. To begin with, at a price - today it can be ordered for only 390 euros (a gadget for one leg). And the second point - Zone DPMX ™ is attached directly to the bike boot. True, there is an important question about field testing of measurement accuracy, which has not yet been covered on the project page. Although the basic measurement errors are indicated.

    Design

The device is completely waterproof and consists of two parts interconnected by a bus:

A sensor measuring cadence is mounted in the upper unit. In the bottom - a calibrated strain gauge that measures the force of pressing the pedal. By the way, the Zone DPMX ™ device works only with the mount on the Speedplay® Zero road pedals, but now you won’t surprise anyone, they are sold in stores for 6 thousand rubles.

    How it works

So, by measuring angular cadence and pressing force, Zone DPMX ™ can transfer this data to any ANT + bike computer. The result on the screen is reflected in the form of the generated power in watts, the percent distribution of effort on the right and left foot (if we talk about a set of two sensors, 780 euros) and cadence:

After training, all data can be analyzed on the monitor screen.

    Characteristics

The weight of the Zone DPMX ™ for one leg is only 44 grams, it runs on a Li-ion battery for 15 hours without recharging. The device is completely waterproof. Accuracy of measurement of effort - 2%, cadence - 0.5 rpm.

The temperature range is from -10 to +60 degrees Celsius.

    Delivery

Unfortunately, Russia is not in the list of countries where the device can be delivered. But you can order it at the address of our warehouse in the USA. Shipment of the first shipments is scheduled for May 2016. Delivery to the USA - 10 euros . From the USA, a parcel weighing up to 500 grams will be delivered to you for $ 10 to the point of delivery in your city.
