Ugears - 3D Wooden Mechanical Puzzles with Kickstarter

Today we will tell you about new models of mechanical designers or 3D puzzles Ugears , which may interest both children and adults.

We are rather vividly interested in designers (and everything that remotely resembles them), both electronic and designers with a set of electronic components, which, as it turned out, are different. Recently published several historical facts about construction robots. So the new “subtype” for us, the mechanical designer, we easily found a place in the store, and we decided to assemble the simplest model.

    To start

This is not to say that the product has no or no analogues. And we even introduced you to some of them. So, once, we assembled a wooden robot with a rotating part equipped with a solar panel.

A lot of similar designs are scattered around children's stores, including very simple and cheap ones. True, some of them are criticized.

    Constructors

It should be noted that it is not entirely correct to call Ugears constructors, since they do not possess characteristics typical for designers. In particular, the details of the device are not typical, individual, each of which carries a strictly defined function and can be used in any one case. So this should be attributed to modeling. Despite the fact that most likely the fate of the assembled “toy” is an honorable place on the shelf.

By type we have before us “modeling according to the model”, when the process is controlled not by a person and his imagination, but by an assembly instruction, in connection with which methodically models can be aimed at developing motor skills, attention, perseverance, but hardly creative thinking.

Mechanisms in designers are also, quite frankly, not innovative. The same Meccano has long been allowed to execute some processes. Here, for example:

    Ugears

    But, anyway, Ugears looks interesting.

The company is from Ukraine, which is indicated by “U” in the name, and they themselves call their products 3D puzzles , of which today there are already about 10 pieces in their lineup. Launched on Kickstarter .

Models are not badly “drawn” and are most often equipped with some simple mechanism. The details are neatly cut and inspire confidence in general, as many 3D puzzles do not stand up to criticism of strength. This is how the tractor looks:

    Tribics

The simplest model, which includes four different puzzles, each of which consists of several parts that will be stitched together with a toothpick.

    The instruction is attached:

As I understand it, the Tribes are demo samples, and, despite the fact that the gears inside the cat are spinning, they do not perform any functions.

    After the parts are fastened:

The ends of the toothpicks break off and the last elements are added. Cat with a tail:

    As a verdict

A little better quality than what was held in my hands up to this point. With practical application it’s difficult, formally it’s not even in the category of toys, but a business of souvenirs. The plus is that you can additionally decorate the assembled structure as you wish, paint it, decorate it with stickers, etc.

    Analogs .

In each area that Ugears somehow affects, it has analogues. Wooden models? - Please: transport, animals, robots, etc. Here, however, it must be said that the vast majority are not mechanical.

Constructors? If you call it that, then there is a significant number of proposals. 3D puzzles? Yes, take at least these:

As for decorating models, here in any needlework store there is a whole department with wooden structures-blanks for watches, tea houses, etc.
