The first direct detection of gravitational waves is discussed

A letter has just arrived from the leader. Collaborators report: over the past ten days, Europe has been discussing direct (not indirect) detection of gravitational waves.

Gravitational waves were recorded independently at VIRGO (Europe) and Advanced LIGO (USA). The source is a binary system of black holes with masses of 10 and 1.4 solar masses in the Coma cluster at a distance of about 15 MPc from us. The frequency of the waves is 125 Hz. They plan to announce this in January 2016.

Here was the text of the letter, removed for certain reasons. Thanks to the well-wisher for returning me to the right phlegmatic and judicious course. Removing an entire post was considered unfair to GT users.

Update: An official statement will be made on Thursday, February 11th.

If there is a demand for this business, I’m ready to write an educational program at a popular level about what gravitational waves are and how they manifest.
