Roscosmos published a video tour of the ISS

The International Space Station is now in one of its peak forms of development. At the moment, they want to extend the term of her work and life to at least 2024. In the coming years, the launch of the Bigelow Aerospace inflatable module, the Nauka modules (not earlier than 2017) and the nodal Wharf should take place. But the general assembly of the station has already been completed. It would be logical to document its structure for future generations, or at least show the interior decoration to the enthusiasts of manned space exploration.

It is enough to instruct the crewman on the subject of his story, give him a camera, time and necessary permissions (the international station and the modules belong to different organizations). Astronauts of NASA and the European Space Agency have already filmed video tours, and have done this more than once. Despite a comparable role in space, the media presence of Roscosmos does not differ in such a scale. But the Russian space agency also has interesting material.

Similar videos have already been published by both NASA and ESA ( 1 , 2 ). What might be interesting material from Roskosmos?

American, Japanese and European astronauts live and work in the American segment, which consists of American, European and Japanese modules. Hundreds of specialists live that support their work on Earth. It is logical to expect that most of the attention of video excursions of foreign space agencies will be focused on the equipment and the interior of the native modules, and the Russian part of the ISS will be perceived to a greater extent as the main control point (the Zvezda module), a place for cargo exchange, arrival, departure and rescue .

Video clips from the ISS from NASA and ESA talk about the general purpose of the Russian modules, but do not go deeply. And in the recently published video of Roscosmos there are several small details from the astronauts themselves.

Over the past week, Roscosmos has been publishing short videos on the ROSCOSMOS Media Store channel , where Mikhail Kornienko and Gennady Padalka explain the internal structure of the ISS in Russian. Video quality is high - 1920 × 1080 (FullHD), 25 frames per second. The sound is mono, only to the left channel. Ten clips are assembled under spoilers to avoid overloading the page with elements.

Part one. Mikhail Kornienko begins the story, shows one of the four cabins in the American segment, where Kornienko is lodged.

Part two. The Kibo module, a gateway for experiments and the Matryoshka-P experiment.

    Part three. Columbus Module

Part Four. Module "Unity", the American gateway to spacewalk, the toilet of the American segment.

Part Five Tight multifunctional Leonardo module and its sizes.

Part Six ISS Russian segment, pressurized module of the Zarya module (FGB), module of Dawn (MIM-1), experiment Calcium and emergency laying.

Part Seven. Docking cone, Dawn weights and air ionizer.

Part Eight. The adapter compartment of the Zvezda service module, the Search module (MIM-2) and the Soyuz TMA-16M module.

Part nine. Zarya service module, ISS commander Gennady Padalka and two crew cabins.

Part ten. Gennady Padalka shows the magnitude of the ISS from the outside.

Earlier on the same channel , no less interesting materials were published. Like Makarevich in the television show Smak, Gennady Padalka and Mikhail Kornienko explain the process of preparing for spacewalks. Work in outer space was successfully completed on August 10. The moment of the shooting captured the preparations for the release somewhere before this date.

Part one. Mounts, GoPro cameras and styling tools.

Part two. Life support systems of spacesuits.

Part three. Kornienko explains where the work will take place. Against the background, the American crew is watching the transmission of political satire The Daily Show.

Roscosmos has already published a video where Russian astronauts talk about life at the station. This video is from Elena Serova, who returned to Earth on March 12 this year.

Among the earlier videos from other space agencies have a tour by André Kuipers from 2012 , tour with Sunita Williams and Kevin Ford from 2012 and several stories involving Samantha Samantha Cristoforetti during her recent visit to the ISS .
