The surgeon who plans to transplant a person’s head found an assistant

Sergio Canavero, an Italian surgeon who plans to transplant the head of a Russian programmer into a new body, found an assistant to carry out his idea. As it turned out, the new partner lives in China, his name is Xiaoping Ren, his specialization is surgery. At the same time, a Chinese surgeon for a long time not only practiced transplantation, but also developed new models of transplant etiology. According to Canavero, Xiaoping Ren is the only person in the world who can lead a project.

Xiaoping is 53 years old, and in the press he is often called "Dr. Frankenstein." The fact is that a Chinese surgeon successfully transplanted a mouse head to another body in 2013. This year, Xiaoping announced its intention to carry out a similar operation on primates.

Xiaoping and his teammore than 1000 operations on transplantation of mouse heads have been successfully carried out . They used various methods of conducting operations and recovering from them. The maximum result so far is one day of mouse life.

Kanavero and Zhen plan to start recruiting project participants to implement Canavero’s plan to transplant the head of a 30-year-old Russian programmer suffering from muscular dystrophy to a new body.

Both surgeons admit that there are many technical problems in terms of connecting the nerve fibers, blood vessels and spinal cord. In addition, a very important task is to prevent rejection of the new head by the body. In addition, new types of equipment, surgical techniques, instruments and medicines are needed.

If the project receives funding, then its implementation will be implemented over the next two years. Moreover, the country of the operation has not yet been selected. Perhaps this will be China, since the country's legislation does not prohibit such operations, unlike most other countries.

It is worth noting that the first attempt to transplant a head to another body (the operation was performed on primates) was carried out in 1970 by the American neurosurgeon Robert J. White. True, the monkey lived only a few days after the operation, the reason is the rejection of the head by the body.
