German automaker BMW Group plans to supply all models of cars with electric motors, reports financial news agency RTTNews. Such a modernization will have to be done when the new EU laws on restrictions on exhaust emissions come into force. To fit into the legal framework, you need to install an electric transmission with an electric motor and an electric generator on all cars. In this case, it is not necessary to completely abandon internal combustion engines, they can work as auxiliary engines for generating current in hybrid plants or as backup engines when traveling long distances.
Electric motors will even be installed on the popular 3 Series sports sedans.

New exhaust regulations will be tougher than in the US and China. The existing standards are valid only until 2021, although they are planned to be extended until 2025. But after this period it will be necessary to produce a more advanced and environmentally friendly transport. To develop its conceptual models and designs you need to start now.
According to available information, BMW plans to implement a plug-in hybrid Hybrid power plant, where it is possible to charge the battery from an external power source (outlet), and a separate small electric motor is installed for each wheel. At the same time, a rudimentary internal combustion engine is maintained, which starts if necessary.
To compensate for the large mass of batteries, engineers are going to radically reduce the weight of the body using carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), and give the body a more aerodynamic shape.

BMW is considered the leader in the development of electric vehicles among all German automakers. It is likely that competitors will follow the example of BMW.
The prospective development of “cars of the future” at BMW is being carried out as part of Project i (project I), which provides for the production of environmentally friendly cars. According to the project developed several commercial models and concept: the MINI E , the BMW the ActiveE , a concept the i3 the BMW , Concept BMW i8 andBMW i8 Spyder concept .

BMW has already launched the first representatives of the i-series: the five-door electric car i3 and the sports car i8. The audience warmly greeted them. For example, i3 ranked fourth in US sales of all electric vehicles. In 2014, 17,793 i3 units were sold worldwide.
